Anyone have any experience with this. Found a good deal in Tn. Don't have to pay state tax there, so Im wondering what I have to pay the state of Alabama. Ive heard of people not paying anything and later get hit with the tax + fees and Im trying to see if its worth the drive all said and done.

Yes, they will hit you later for the taxes. Just go ahead and figure that in to your cost when comparing to local dealers.

I bought mine in TN. You will get a tax notice in the mail as the states communicate these things. Not sure what happened to that notice that I got..........

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

I guess my question is, why is the state of Alabama going to tax you, how do they know you got one?

The state of TN tells them. The seller tells TN and TN tells AL. That is why you don't get the letter right away. There is enough time for you to start thinking you escaped the taxes and BOOM!

From what I understand they charge you a consumer use tax. I saw one place where it said a 2% tax and somewhere it said they would charge you the additional county and city tax. If that's the case I'd only be saving a couple hundred.

They will charge you. I got out of it once. Next time I paid it when they set a court date.

Bought a Pioneer in Corinth, MS last year. About 6 months later I got the tax notice. Still saved several hundred over anything I could find in B'ham, Tuscaloosa.

I'm in Tuscaloosa area also. I got a quote from Lake Hills also and this place in Tn beats their price by $700.00. Do you know approximate what % in taxes you paid? The dealer in Hamilton is pretty close before taxes.

I might know a guy who bought a Ranger in TN, and he tells me he never paid or saw anything about state tax. By report.

I've never understood how Alabama can charge tax, after the fact, on a out of state purchase that they do not tag and title. Why don't they do tractors, equipment, furniture, appliances or any other "big ticket item" ? What else do they do that is not titled and taxed?

That's crazy. How does the state even know that you have the ATV in Alabama? Maybe it's going to stay at your hunting lease in TN.

Good point, maybe it's to be left on your farm in Tennessee or it's a gift for your grandson in Jawga. Screw Montgomery !
