10 more years and going to slow down. Plan on driving school bus just to stay active and keep health insurance. Still get a lot of time off with school schedule with plenty of time off to do whatever.

Somewhere around November 2018 I'll be hanging up the fire helmet. I'm starting a new part time job as I type, doing residential and eventual commercial inspections. May try a flip or two as well. Firefighting is a young mans game and I don't enjoy it nearly was much as I once did. I'm looking forward to the change with excitement mixed with stomach butterflies.

I have 41 years until I draw a SS check, but hoping to retire before then with savings. I would like to be a charter captain and fish every day when I retire, but I know that's not likely.

13 yrs left and I will have 30yrs as a LEO and I'm done with that. I'm hoping for
another 5yrs rice farming. This is high hopes as the rice industry is total chit now. After I retire I will be my wife's choffuer. She want to buy a motor home and travel. I told her I will drive her wherever she wants to go as long as it ain't no crappy cities.

Due to the state of the current economy and certain political goings on in congress ,, I am hoping and praying that I'll be able to collect my retirement pension and my SS pension. If SS is still solvent by the time I meet the age requirement ( I'm 57 right now) and Alabama's teachers retirement system board hasn't voted to let the main street and wall street thugs handle my money ,,if all goes well,, and I'm still alive,, I figure I'll have to take a part time job to subsidize my living.

I'm thinking retail,,, outdoors,,, fishing/ hunting, camping,, with the way many retailers offering part time work mostly ,,I'm thinking Bass Pro Shops..

I wouldn't mind starting a grass cutting business. The retired guy that cuts my dad's grass makes about $5k a month, cash, just by cutting grass. Not bad for a side gig.

Some advice while you are young. If you really want to enjoy fishing like you do now, reconsider the Charter Boat idea. By the same token, if you like to hunt, don't be a hunting guide. People, when they are paying, can be unreasonable asses if things don't go perfect, even though the reasons are out of your control. Not to mention the hard work behind the scenes that people don't think about. I've been offered the opportunity to guide for a couple of our local lodges, but upon thinking about it, I enjoy hunting too much to let someone else run it. I get all the "guiding" I want taking friends and relatives from out of state when they visit. More than any of it though, I enjoy taking kids when they kill their first deer. No one pays me so they can't gripe about the results.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

You'd best have a hell of investment broker to build up that kind of savings account.

Time and discipline is far more important than the quality of your broker. Even having a broker is a drag on those who have the willingness to learn what they are doing.

Y'all kee in mind a lot of people never choose to retire. Their health goes to pot and they're forced to. Happens way more than people think. And earlier too. The number of 70 year olds working is really low.

I retired on June 16th from a 20 year consulting gig. I start a new gig in July with a former client. I told the wife I will be married to the new gig for 2 years and ready to slow down a bit more in 5 and fully retire in 10. We'll be 55 and 56 then.

After working hard for 47 years, I'm too worn out to do the thing's I thought I'd be able to do when retired.

Retired Feb 2015 from one flying job and went back to work 9 days later flying again. Enjoyed the first job for 26 years and enjoy the new one now. This one won't last 26 more though. Hopefully 10-15.

I plan on making a LOT of money here in about 10-12 years. That's all a plan, and plans can go wrong, but in my field it's possible.
