I've been inside and underneath about 1200 houses in Walker County over the past 13 years. I've see everything there is to see....but I'd still end up getting surprised and scratching my head from time to time.

I've met salt of the earth people that were fantastic, I've met the worst of the worst and all in between. "Native" Walker Co is a very different place. It's hard to describe. The same culture has spread to bordering parts of Jefferson, Cullman, Winston, Marion and Fayette counties too. New arrivals like out around the lake are exempt (for now).

Empire and Sipsey....those places stand out in my mind...parts of Blount are worse than Walker.

I have no proof to back this up and it sounds ridiculous but I have heard of a place somewhere in the woods in Walker County that there is a tree with a hole in it. And you could write someones name and some info about them with some cash (couldn't tell you how much) and that person would be killed within a few days. I do not know how true this is but it is a story I have heard about Walker County.

I live in walker county and it's just like anywhere else in Alabama. One of the most beautiful lakes in th county is there. Like ALL counties there are good and bad places. Those who say it's a shucks hole are full of shucks

There isn't anything wrong with Walker Co just like every other rural county in Alabama. A lot of these guys that say all the crazy stuff about it live in and around Bham with all them thug democrats and won't leave the house without a loaded gun. Got bars on all the windows of the gas stations and alarms and cameras on there houses like they are afraid for there lives 24/7. Bitch about all the rules in there subdivision etc then come to this part of the state to hunt and get away from all that craziness over there. I wouldn't trade one acre of Walker Winston Fayette or Lamar Co for all of Jefferson and Shelby Co. Got bad apples everywhere but some of the best people anywhere in this part of the state.

If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I moved back to walker county 2 years ago after being away for nearly 30 years. It has changed. You need a damn round of antibiotics when you leave the Walmart. I have never seen anything like it in my life. I'm afraid to drink the water around here out of fear I'll grow a unibrow or take a shine to one of my cousins. These people weren't here when I went to thatch school and farmstead. I ain't leaving though. I like being able to walk to 10 different deer stands from the house.

Doekiller, aldeer did not create the walker county/goat reference. It was there long before this site was created. Which says a lot lol. I did date a law student while I was at UA from walker county and she had some very strange stories about Smith Lake.......

I've got the pic doekiller referenced I may dig it up but West Jefferson and Walker Co. is old school mining country. My dad worked underground all of it for 45 years. It's a tough life and it's different folks because of it! They are Salt of the earth but they don't put up BS. Like someone else posted you're ass will disappear if you crossed the coal companies. There was a guy in Jasper who blew up on his riding lawnmower and that's a true story. It really is hard to understand if you haven't lived here.

Story I heard said it blew parts of him over the house. His wife moved to Alabaster and a friend of mine found dynamite under her car at the oil change place. Said she was real nervous before like she knew something. Don't think they ever found out who killed him. Rough places on Walker co-Jeff co line. Saw a fight in NO involving a Walker Co guy and two bouncers at a bar. He was giving them hell till they got back inside and locked the door
