So you're basically saying Walker County is a redneck adaptation of Goodfellas?

Giles Woods, the nurse at the hospital that blew up, Furgerson , the list goes on. The county line was like road house without Patrick Swazy. The old sawmill, all state.

My wife is from beat 10. Thats also the area where the locals hymmed a game warden up years ago, and took a few pot shots at him to get the message across to leave them alone. Most of the stuff being brought up on this thread happened 30+ years ago expect for the lawnmower and that was nearly 20 years ago. Walker county has issues just like every county in this state does, but there's a lot of good people that grew up and still live around here. Take my wife for example she manages a large medical supply company in Birmingham, and is as a good person as you could meet. I was born and raised around here, got a full ride out of high school, have two degrees, and a very good job. My brother is the same way except he had a full ride to Vandy. Marksoutdoor take a lot of comments with a grain of salt because the majority of people that live around here aren't white trash or meth heads.

Any of you on Facebook can look up walker county unsolved crimes. There is bombings and incidents from the last 10 years and older. Never knew that car bombs were so popular in Alabama.

Born and raised there. I know a little about what it's actually like thumbup.

I've also worked almost half of the counties in the state, driving rural roads, doing forestry related recon, sneaking around looking at timber in country folks backyards. It's basically all the same. Period.

If your wife is from Beat 10 then odds are I know her and she probably knows me..The main group of families down there are Wade, Dunn, Brunner, and a few others so which clan does she belong to??

My dad was his wife's lawyer. At one point they thought she was involved in his death.

That is a crazy case. My son plays sports with her nephew and I know it still affects her sister to this day. I have always thought there was more to the story than came out.

Yeah, there is more to that story that wasn't included in that article. That's another thing about that trashy ass county, nobody wants to talk about it out of fear. It's the damndest place I've ever seen. I worked there for 10 years and live a county over so I know a little. I've always referred to Walker County as a 'snake pit cloaked in religion'.

The OP asked why it had the reputation so that is why weve told the stories. I was raised in West Jefferson county and grew up on or near the county line as a teenager so I'm not knocking anything about it. All I'm saying is that it truly is a different mindset. If you drive out to Gorgas and pass a 100 old strip mines you start to get a feel for the place. I've fished and swam in old strip pits my whole life. That was going down to the creek for us.

The reputation walker county got and has actually started back in 30's 40's and 50's with all whiskey making that went on and the people including Leo's who were killed shot at and ran off from the area so the people could make their living

Got bars on all the windows of the gas stations and alarms and cameras on there houses like they are afraid for there lives 24/7. Bitch about all the rules in there subdivision etc then come to this part of the state to hunt and get away from all that craziness over there. I wouldn't trade one acre of Walker Winston Fayette or Lamar Co for all of Jefferson and Shelby Co. Got bad apples everywhere but some of the best people anywhere in this part of the state.

I lived in Walker County until I was 13 years old until we moved right across the Jefferson line in the Corner/Bagley area. My mom and dad's family were both from Empire where I spent a fair amount of time growing up. I used to drive to Empire a lot and play back yard football with my cousin and his friends. Even back in the early 90's it wasn't uncommon to be playing football and see black SUV's pull up in a yard and DEA agents pour out and start kicking in doors. I've had grown men come into a game of backyard football trying to fight a bunch of 15 year olds. That chithole and Walker Co in general have gotten nothing but worse over the years, and since a lot of my mom and dad's family have left that place or passed on, I never step foot in that part of the world. There's three things there will never be a shortage of in Walker County..... white trash, meth, and redneck trash that answer to the name Wes.
