Why don't ya'll just ask him what he prefers?
It is easier to fool a man than to convince him he has been fooled.

FYI, some of the early hymns were sung to the melody of songs that were being sung in the local bars and saloons in order to attract the drunks that couldn't tell the difference. Look up the Wesleyan brothers.

We just sing and make melody in our hearts.Since I never read about anything being played in NEW Testament worship so we don't do it. As does Larkinsville Church of Christ, I'd say that's traditional. As a former Church of Christ, I will say you've never read anything in the New Testament about using projectors with song words, microphones, etc...but you'll find those in nearly every Church of Christ building out there. Or electricity, or air conditioning, or pews, or virtually any other aspect of a modern church. It's a flawed reasoning. If that's what someone prefers, then that's cool. But just because the NT doesn't mention guitars and pianos doesn't mean they can't/shouldn't be incorporated.

I just want to have Bible for what me and my family do in worship.God is not my pal and church service isn't a party to me.

Well David made a fool out of himself as he worshiped God. He even used a stringed instrument. I believe he was considered a "man after God's own heart". (1st Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22)

If God is not your pal,I suggest you get on better terms with him. Then maybe he will let you play a little music and loosen up so you can enjoy life a little bit.

Very traditional and I love it that way, as it has been said, not there to be entertained. Also, the preaching is traditional, I know where I stand before God when I leave. I appreciate the church the way church used to be. If we all went back to the way the church sho nuff used to be then we would go sell everything we own and give as people have a need. We would spend days in prayer with one another and no one would go without. Also, we would share the Gospel and our testimony to the point of death and persecution would be a given not something unusual. Anyone coming if that's the deal because that's traditional church. Yet in our western culture, we split churches over music preference. Go figure. It's all about what we can get out of church instead of what we can give to God and to others. How the music makes US feel and how the church can meet OUR needs. So we aren't supposed to get anything out of church? Hm.... Then why do we go? We can worship the Lord by ourselves every day. Hebrews 10:25King James Version (KJV) 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Well Ridgestalker, looks like traditional is not an acceptable answer to snakebit's query.

(1st Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22) I believe that would be old testament. I just simply told what I liked and why and folks start jumping on you with two feet. Sorry for that RS. I didn't mean that towards you. I was just pointing out an example of someone who loved God and he was caught in the act of worship.

I just simply told what I liked and why and folks start jumping on you with two feet. and its normally the same ones with their condescending posts. When I saw this thread, I started looking for one particular patronizing member, he didn't fail to show his true colors.

I think most of us can agree that as long as your heart is right in worship, whichever form you choose is fine.
I say we get back to the OP's original question of what we prefer, not which is more pleasing to God. Cain and Abel both gave sacrifices but Cain's was rejected. He didn't have the right attitude or heart. Attitude means a great deal. It's also an example that all worship is not acceptable.

This thread is making me think of "Sgt. York" and them singing "Give me that Old Time Religion". Those Pentecostals were getting too contemporary for Alvin and the Preacher's liking.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
