I'm sitting here on my back porch reading all this crap and thinking some of you lead very sheltered lives. Now, I know some of you are giving us up the road for fun but, the ones that are serious, well I have no words for you. Walker county is no worse than any other place and a hell of a lot better than many others. Yeah we have our meth heads and thieves but I'd be willing to bet we have far fewer than any of the large cities in the state. There are some of the best, down to earth people you will ever meet here. Some of them may not have much and some may be among the wealthiest in this state. I know both. I was born and raised here and I wouldn't change it.

I saw a made for TV movie on the Walker county monster from toxic waste. It was hilarious. Everyone thought the guy was nuts until the toxic radioactive monster from Walker county shows up at the end. The government agents in radiation suits take the monster and the crazy husband and his wife. Avoid Walker county! rofl

Let me repeat this - it's all the freakin same! I've been to more backwoods parts of AL than 99% of members here - just the nature of my work. No difference anywhere, period!!

The past may have been different when Coal was king. But that's the past.

Every rural area of AL today is all the same. Good and bad.

Very well said Driveby - I've lived in Walker County all my life. I'm the 6th generation to grow up on the farm my family owns, and I honestly wouldn't want to live anywhere else. With the job I have, I've had every opportunity to pick up and move. Every town/county has it's issues whether you want to admit it or not. I can't come up with any logical reason someone feels the need to blanket and put down a whole county just because you've met a handful of people from there or heard a few stories from years ago. Yes, there's areas better than others to live in and spend your time around, but even in those areas, there's folks there that would give you the shirt off their back if they thought you needed it. For the ones seriously putting down Walker County and the citizens thereof, please open your eyes, look at whats going on in your own county, and get over yourselves.

Use to work with a couple of good ol' boys from Beat 10. They were down to earth and had a way of getting things done, but rough is a good way to describe them at times.

What's wrong with being.a little rough sometimes rough is what it takes. Especially at a rooster fight or a mud track, and sometimes just at work.

I personally don't know if there's a thing wrong with Walker County but I had to drive over there 2 weeks ago and I'll be damned if I didn't see a pen full of goats almost as soon as I crossed the county line.
The missus was with me and I said "See, honey, I told you my buddies said there were a bunch of goat humpers over here."
She had to walk inside that hospital in Jasper for a few minutes to see someone. She wouldn't elaborate on the details but said it was the dirtiest hospital she'd ever been inside. She might have been in there 15 minutes.

We are good hard working folks here and I am like Driveby I know some are just poking and some serious but I wouldn't trade my raising here for anything . I was fortunate enough to grow up on a small farm and saw my parents work like dogs to put clothes and food on our table , I learned the value of hard work that still drives me today . God has been good to me and my family and neighbors will jump right in at any time to help someone in need , you don't get that in most places . We do have our share of some of the same things you experience in your home area but all we can do is pray for them and live our lives so it's pleasing to God . Walker County get's picked on but I wouldn't trade it because it offers a lot of great things , some of the best Churches , lakes , rivers , schools and land for raising a family .

I live here and love it. I made the wise crack earlier about the folks at the Walmarts. I drove by there today and noticed most of the car tags were 67 county...hmmm.

Met some good folks from Walker County but I grew up in Bessemer and went to Jess Lanier back in the early 80's. Walker aint got nothing on Bessemer period.

When I was a kid, we would go to Jasper. I remember a lot of white folks dressed nicely. Checkered shirts, double- knit pants and crew cuts fot the gents. Ladies with up-dos and cotton dresses. My mother said her family use to go to Jasper for brush arbors and she found it interesting that pentacostal women wore red shoes to those events. (Old memories long forgotten) I think a lot of Church of God folks up that way back then.

I hear the rural areas around Walker and Cullman have been devastated by meth and crack in the recent years. What a shame!
We can't very well stick our fingers in the faces of the inner city folks blaming drugs if rural folk are lowering themselves doing the same. What in the h e double hocky sticks happened? I'm sure lots of good folks there having to put up with the Crap. Forced tolerance!

The deal is things in the rural areas aren't like they were when a lot of us grew up. I remember the first break-in. That really never happened before. I mean yea sometime someone would steal a gas can or something out of the barn, but not break in the house and rob the place. And 5-10 years later well this had happened several times.

Crime came to the country. Meth happened.

Seems like we've got a whole lot more white trash around this whole country than we use to have. Lot of things to blame for that none of which are just problems in that area of the State but across the board.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

I was born in walker county and lived in Argo until I was about 6-7. My dads side of the family all live there, mostly between Argo and dover town. There are some good people in walker county but in my opinion it's the trash that brings it down. I was fortunate enough to grow up in cullman county and I feel like I came out much better because if it. I don't think I've even been back to walker county in over 10 years. I will say that people from walker county are some of the toughest people on earth and that's a proven fact.

May have been an urban legend but the scuttlebutt used to be that the northern mob recruited muscle there.

I drive through it and see poverty.

No words gents. No words. Driveby, Eclipse, JoshM, Myerz, the list goes on.

Y'all want a down home good time, come to Walker County and we'll show it to you.

Has been said over and over, there are some bad apples. But I wouldn't trade this place for nothin. There are just as many salt of the earth folks around. And we ain't hard to find.

The invitation is open.

That's not scuttlebutt Geno that's a fact. I knew some of the men that put in the work for some outoftowners. Theyre all dead and gone now and that was a very different time too
