BTW, Scott said police officers don't have laws like this and they do. A police officer can not engage in sex with anyone in their custody, whether it is consensual or not. These laws are being written to include any profession in which it is thought that it has "control" over the other. The "control" is seen as a form of coercion, but this is already covered in Alabama law, so truthfully, a new law wasn't needed. It would have taken a lot of work to show coercion and prosecute though. Like I already said, it was a knee jerk reaction law and now they need to go back and amend it. The problem with letting it all be handled administratively is that if there is no law, particularly a felony law, it won't be investigated by law enforcement. Did you hear about the crap going on in Arab a few years back? A couple cops were sleeping with a girl they arrested along with a baseball coach. She ended up getting mad at them and posted screen shots of all their text on Facebook. Can you imagine the heart attack that was had the day they logged in and saw that?

I think the control and ability to coerced are implied which is a weakness of a poorly written law. Laws can't imply something. They are what the plain language of the law says. The law clearly has no required control or coercion requirements. You can try to make it be what ever you are ant, but the law is not the same as the police officer law and is in fact not similar.

When you have a defense attorney & a retired police officer who is married to a teacher agreeing that a particular piece of legislation is garbage then it probably is.
Those two about the most extreme opposites when it comes to laws you can get and they're in agreement.
I've never said that I agree with or support teachers having sex with students, I have said that I want accurate and thought out laws.
That is a big difference.
Oh ya I've been really pleased with my first chainsaw, fires right up and cuts nicely.
If you need it that black and white then I don't want you to educate my kids. I have an education degree. Go read the Alabama code of ethics for teachers. It's real simple and if a person can't abide by that then it's pretty obvious they need to choose another career path. I see this deal like police shootings. I have multiple speeding tickets and haven't been shot yet. Do what police say and don't get shot...Don't frak your students and don't get arrested. Education degree = not much in this case. Bless yer heart - you missed the point entirely and you made an azz out of yerself doing it.

It's pretty blunt in the code of ethics which is covered in Foundations 3000. If you can't abide or agree then you need to do something else.
