It is my personal opinion that a "parent" would never "forget" about the a child in a vehicle. It makes no difference if it's out of their "routine" or not. An excuse is not good enough for just plain murder.
There is not an excuse in the world that can justify it. Just like anybody else that hurts child, death. So every person whose kid drowns in a swimming pool is also a murderer? Because it's so easy to avoid, it should never ever ever happen right? No room for error right? Same thing. But, for you, there's no gray area, instant death penalty for the parent. Just doesn't make sense to me. As I said, it's my opinion. And no there is no excuse for leaving a child in a car. I didn't mention anything else other than leaving a child in a car now did I? I'm a parent of three. And I have never even came close to forgetting one of my children. So if you don't like my opinion fine. It doesn't bother me any. But there is no excuse for a child being left in a car.
I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

Not trying to excuse it but let me ask you this. How many of you have ever had something in your mind, or were preoccupied, to the point that you couldn't even remember driving for several miles of a stretch of road. You missed your turn and drove several miles before you realized it. Technology doesn't help because we are pretty much reachable 24/7. I know with my job, I'll have construction crews calling me sometimes starting at 5:00 a.m. If there is a problem on a job they'll call me constantly, or the customer will, until I can get there or get someone there. It would be very easy for a child in a car seat to go to sleep, and in a situation like that or one similar, to drive right past daycare or whatever. Especially if it isn't your normal routine. I'm not saying it excuses it, or makes it okay. Just saying not every person that does it is a criminal. Mistakes happen. Very sad situation, whatever the circumstances.
I can tell you this. If it were to happen to me, I wouldn't even fight it in court. Give me the death penalty and let's get it over with. I couldn't live with myself.

Even if it's outside your normal routine wouldn't that make a person more attentive? Yes.
I know accidents happen. But forgetting the most important thing in a parents life is no excuse.

My kids, when they were young, were the most important thing in my life. People today that forget about their children, are too preoccupied with themselves.
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

It's about focus and priorities. When both parents are focused on a career and are hot swapping the nurturing phase these are the type things that happen. Somebody has to stay focused on the kids as their primary function. Sorry if that gives some heartburn but there are no accidents only screw ups!

No quail. they are on the phone. It's just like them driving on the interstate 35 miles an hour because they are consumed by their conversation. You can bet if phones didn't work when a car was moving it would save a lot of lives. I imagine they are in a conversation and get out of the car oblivious to the fact their child is with them.

I never heard of anything like it growing up either. And neither have my parents.

From what I've read and they are keeping information to themselves, it was a daycare van and not the parents vehicle. Daycare workers were reported to have been heard saying not to talk to the press and we're not going down for this.

All these stories break my heart. I never forgot my kids were in a vehicle with me, and I don't think I could ever forget my grandchildren either, but I've done absent minded stuff before and I can understand how some of these cases happen. I once started filling the bathtub and decided to start a printing job on the computer while waiting. Had trouble with the printer, forgot the bath, and flooded the bathroom. The result was not a tragedy, but it was very embarrassing and helps me understand how someone like the Dr mentioned above could do such a thing.
I think the primary reason we never heard of such cases years ago is there were no car seats. Babies had to be held by someone when traveling, and children had the run of the vehicle. My mother never left us locked in a car, but I can remember her leaving us in the car when she went into a store to make a quick purchase. We weren't in danger of suffocating because the windows were down; our vehicles never had AC. And even if we had been locked in the car, we could have banged on the windows and gotten someone's attention - we weren't locked down in a car seat because they didn't exist.
I'm sure that statistically car seats save the lives of more kids than they kill, but I think they are sometimes a factor in their deaths too.
