Any of y'all remember when they had the graves uncovered in the main building ? You could walk in and look at them .I understand that they built the floor over them now

Yup, The graves that you saw were plastic skeletons. But it was covered up cause that is very disrespectful to Native Americans. Would you think its cool to show off your grandparents skeletons in their final resting place?

None of anything like that has been found in any of those mounds.

I've read where they have been found all across the US but nothing in Moundville. Was just curious if anyone had any info whether or not it had been.

I went to a week summer camp around 1963, seems the real bones were visible then.

Those were plaster, the real one's were excavated and the early display was made for the general public.

Most folks did think they were looking at the real thing, they were plaster or plastic. I think they even tried paper-mache' but the humidity got that ruint.

I can throw a rock and hit the mounds from my house. Right across the highway from me. The riverbanks behind the park are heavily shored up with rock. I was told it was to protect the burial sites there. I remember being in elementary school and taking a field trip there and looking at the "bones" or fake bones.

I normally see eye to eye with you on stuff Skinny but I'd say it's no more disrespectful to be looking at FAKE bones than it is to actually dig them up.

We dont like to dig them up and only excavate burials when we absolutely have to. Back then folks didnt think about the disrespectful nature of digging up burials, we do now.

A friend of mine who has long been deceased, dug in moundsville, somewhere around the 1940's. I believe he is credited with being one of the founders. His collection was unreal. Obviously this was before any laws were implemented to prevent digging.

I hope my bones are placed on public display one day. They could highlight the 22 broken ones and explain the effect that Evil Kenevil had on young boys in the 70s.
My body can serve as a warning to other young amateur daredevils.
