Last radar I saw had the eyewall pretty dang close to Cuba. If she's heading due west for the next 12 hours from it's current position then Cuba gets clobbered. Why wouldn't this suck all kinds of energy out of her? same thing I'm wondering. Looks like it just took a big wobble due west and is starting to slam Cuba now. Cuba aint sh1t to the weather.

Just posted this to a FB friend (and real liberal friend) who posted the meme about how betcha you Republicans are sorry you doubted ALGORE when he said hurricanes would get stronger and bigger with Global Warming/Climate Change (Picture comparing Andrew to Irma). I posted this:
Labor Day Key West Hurricane 1935-The hurricane struck the Florida Keys as a Category 5, the highest ranking possible. It killed more than 200 World War One veterans who were in the Keys to build a highway. The storm ranks as the most intense hurricane to hit the United States, based on a record low barometric pressure reading of 26.35 inches, according to the National Weather Service. It generated wind speeds of up to 200 miles per hour (322 km per hour). After ravaging the Keys, the storm moved north off the western coast of Florida before turning inland. In all, more than 400 people died in Florida. Yeah...Climate Change...right...got it. What's his explanation for the last 10 years? They've been saying greenhouse gases and (supposed) associated temperature rise/climate change have just continued to climb over the last decade. I assume they didn't take credit for the evil greenhouse gases reducing hurricanes over the last decade so how are they assigning blame for the sporadic ones that hit now? Preaching to the choir I know.

Ok, I am thinking that I may be wrong, but I have seen this before.
The Storm is rolling into Cuba, (God Bless Them). But I am thinking Cuba's geaographry will tear the storm apart, at least weaken it. I also think it will hit the panhandle of Florida as a Cat 2-3. Apalachacolia area better have their sh1t together.

I think it's going to skirt South Florida, intensify and turn north and hit somewhere between Mobile & Panama City. Just a hunch.

I hear what you guys are saying; but there is not a single outlier scientific forecast that I have seen being discussed that does not take this up the Florida peninsula in some manner. And the cone is closing. Please explain your indicators to us non-weather geeks?

Sorry Joseph, but the Mobile and Florida Panhandle has been due for some time. I do pray I'm wrong bro. If it happens, call me. You & family are welcome to come to Georgia.

I REALLY wish all you frigging prognosticators who have a FEELING Irma is going to keep tracking west would STFU!!!!! I know, I know, it could happen...no one really knows until the be-ach hits the coast. I honestly do not think you can compare tracks of any hurricane to another hurricane. So many variables are in play, which again is why, as a scientist, climate change as a man-made phenomenon just doesn't fly, not based on current knowledge anyway... we can't pre-dict chit!!

Please explain your indicators to us non-weather geeks? I'm using what I've seen from past storms that didn't give a flying flip about their models or forecasts. I'm far from a weather guru. I just can't see that light cool front to the north impacting this storms path in the least little bit. Every update is farther west than the previous. I expect that to continue.

Let's say it rides the West coast or veers a little further west and heads north. What would be a safe distance from the coast. 100 miles? 150

I won't say I'm ready if it turns west, but I'll be ok. Ive got enough diesel to run the tractor/pto generator for 2 weeks, 4 cases of water, vehicles full of fuel, gas cans full, hurricane shutters can be put up in an hour, and my stove and oven are propane.
For some reason I've had an uneasy feeling that this would be another Ivan for several days. I don't wish it on anyone else, but hope like hell it doesn't come here.
I didn't see as many Mexicans/Hispanics after Ivan as I saw today. I guess they carpooled up from South Florida because they were everywhere today in Pensacola.

Other than storms that decimated populated areas prior to weather satellites were unknown. Hurricane "history" is only ~30yrs old.
April, 1960 - TIROS. 57 years old.

Western shift continues. Probably a cat 3 storm just a hair west landfall of Apalachicola. Gonna be true sh1tstorm up through Dothan and up through the Chattahoochee basin.
