Goodman.......you were asking about inland distance and safety. I was in enterprise in 10/95 when opal came through(it was a hell of a hurricane party we had.)Best of my memory she was a cat 3. There were gusts recorded at ft Rucker of 110-115mph and sustained winds over 65. That caused trees down every where, power lines all in the roads, electricity out for several days. So if opal could do that 100miles inland.....Irma could be very bad.

I remember there was no associated cold front with opal.......it was hot as monkey balls those days afterward. Our somewhat cooler air in place and the front may
Do more than we think to turn her and weaken her.

I was 16 then. Had a hurricane party at my sister's place in hidden Glen apartments. The next day she was out of power, went back to my parents house in New brocton and power was on. Trailer wasn't even messed up.. Hate to put it on FL folks but sure hope it don't come this way. Maybe it'll go to Mexico and alot of the workers will go back home to rebuild. Then we can build The Wall.

Think I'll watch Key Largo with Bogart tonight. If you haven't seen it, it is a classic about a hurricane in the Keys.

If we build that wall I'll run nekkid through Tutweiller during visiting day , in nothing but some Bob Barkers. If we don't then you let Wiley babysit one of your Pits for the day. Deal? grin

I'll take that bet! If we build the wall, you run nekkid through Tutweiller on visiting day, and if we don't, I'll let Wiley babysit one of goodman's pits for the day!

Starting to get a little uncomfortable here in Mobile. Don't think it will come this far west but it needs to start the turn soon.

Yep. Don't have to shift much further before the eye will remain in the gulf.

Yep the entire shore of the gulf is still in play. Can the storm coming in behind Irma push her deeper into the gulf?

Hurricanes are low pressure systems. If Jose got close enough to Irma to have any effect on her, it would be to pull, not push...and Irma would have the same effect on Jose...whichever has the lowest barometric pressure wins.

She still hasn't made the hard turn north yet, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a little further into the Gulf of Mexico before she does. If that happens, the entire panhandle, and Alabama Gulf Coast may get the bad end of the deal.

You hush right now!

Sorry Joseph, but the Mobile and Florida Panhandle has been due for some time. I do pray I'm wrong bro. If it happens, call me. You & family are welcome to come to Georgia.

If the Port of Alabama takes a direct hit from this storm there will be thousands of square feet of corrugated tin as far north as Conecuh county.

rofl Dang Bill, what did Wiley do to you to wanna put that kind of evil on him. It'd last about as long either way though, them Barker's aren't really made for running.
