The other variable which we cannot measure is how hard of a nudge you give the top. The angle of the table (Earth's spin and gravity) is constant. The Front may nudge it hard or soft and the strength of the storm may be able to overcome some of that nudging, which is why its hard to predict. The fact is though, the longer the storm stays over good warm Gulf water the stronger it will get.
