I don’t own any Sitka, but I do own all 3 weights in Minus 33 Merino and its fantastic. You can’t beat wool IMO. A lot cheaper than First Lite too.
I hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. Theres a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts. Ronald Reagan

I have and wear merino, but don't consider it to be warm. I get more warmth from my outer layers. What if you have wool outer layers?

I'm cold natured too. Merino has done well for me. Same here; the Bass Pro TreeStand socks are pure gold

I’ve never tried any Sitka stuff, but wool is way better than under armor or anything else I’ve ever worn, especially for somebody that breaks a little sweat walking to their stand. Same experience here. Love the first lite, but I'm sure any brand that is 100% merino would work

Company called David Morgan sells some wool long johns and union suits. One kind is regular wool very heavy and a little scratchy made in Canada by Stanfields. The other is a two layer marino wool. The are kind of expensive but are as warm of a base layer that you can get IMO.
If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

My base layers are terramar thermals and merino wool socks. I just spent three weeks in subfreezing temps and didn't get cold once. No jacket, no coveralls just my camo clothes and base layers
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be

It doesn't feel cold to me out West. It feels colder here, which is why I have 2 different clothing tactics.

Bit of a chevy/Ford argument. I've found synthetics to make me more clammy, so have switched to wool.
The major drawback of merino is expense and longevity. It breaks down with washing.

True about the washing, but I wear a lot of my wool base layers and mid and outer layers a bunch of days without washing. It doesn't hold stank. Also, I believe the drying if using a machine is worse than the washing
