The estate sale for most folks doesn't happen until they are dead, but I thought I would go ahead and try to get rid of some treestands I will never use again. So here they are: First up we have 4 lock on stands that I made in the early 80s. The frame is angle iron with the folding legs made of conduit. The seat is attached to black iron pipe and it screws into a coupling once set up. There is another coupling on the underside for carrying. A chain is needed to go through slots in the angle iron, but I don't have any chains so you would need to buy those. I made another one out of just plywood to cut down on weight and robbed the conduit legs off one of the others when I used it. I never got around to welding a coupling on it for the seat. I value these at $20 each, with one at $10 because of damage to the plywood, and the wooden one at $5. So $75 for the 5 stands. Next is a Warren and Sweat climber from the mid 90s. It's aluminum and very light, though the bolts should probably be replaced. I think I paid $75 for it, and say it's worth $25 now. The seat can be placed next to the tree or away from it. Then we have a couple of Buckshot climbers from the 90s. These are steel and convertible to face the tree or sit on the seat. I shot a lot of deer from these stands but they are too uncomfortable for an old man. I value these at $30 each, $60 for both. Next is the first tree stand I ever bought; I think I got it in 1978. I think it was called a Buckbuster. No hand climber came with it so I bought a Baker hand climber. Years later I made a wooden seat for the hand climber. Let's say this is worth $25. Last, we have the Conduit Stand. This one is very light and it's stable on the tree if properly attached. This was the favorite of all the stands I've made, and I spent many hours sitting in it. It has a polypropylene hitch to attach to the tree, but a chain or ratchet strap would be safer. I started to keep this one, but it's just not comfortable enough with my back trouble. I considered this a prototype and free-handed drilling the holes. I was gonna build a jig and make a bunch of them, but never got around to it. I'll say it's worth $30. I believe that adds up to $215 for all 10, but I don't wanna waste a lot of time selling them individually. So I will take $100 for the whole lot of them. All of the webbing and ropes need to be replaced. All stands are sold as is and I want the buyer to sign a bill of sale that also releases me from any liability in the use of the stands. In fact, let's don't call them stands; it's just scrap metal. Please don't send me PMs. The first person to say in this thread, "I want them," will have them. You will have to come to Sylacauga to get them, but there will be no hurry on my part for you to get them. They have been in the shed about 20 years so they can stay here a little longer without issue. Thanks for looking.

I would be very careful PCP. Selling a homemade stand that someone could hurt themselves with could have legal $$$ consequences. Treestand manufacturer's get sued a lot.

No offense PCP But looking at those pics was like going back in time. Spent many hours 20-25' on the side of a tree in stands just like all of those.

I would be very careful PCP. Selling a homemade stand that someone could hurt themselves with could have legal $$$ consequences. Treestand manufacturer's get sued a lot. Hence the reason I said I want the buyer to sign a bill of sale saying they are scrap metal. I'll also include a clause that says if anyone should try to use them there is a high risk of death, and I am released from any liability. Selling them for $100 is basically just giving them away. I could carry them to the junk yard, but a young man could do a little work on them and get a lot of use. The 4 bought climbers are as functional as they ever were, and those Buckshots were considered excellent stands in their day. And the top stands looks rough, but they are rock solid with a good chain. I hunted in the Buckbuster for years without even a safety belt, but I was blessed to never have a fall. If nobody wants them, the junk man will get them.

I built one like the first one in 1970. Hooked it up from the ground then grabbed the edge and climbed up, hunted 7' off the ground and killed deer, my times have changed! Later used in in sloughs duck hunting for a perch for my lab. The thing wouldn't die! Still have it, plywood replaced several times. Good memories as I'm sure you have.

I'm tempted to buy the lot just for that 90s model buckshot. That's one of the best stands ever made.

What makes you think anybody would be at risk? If someone chooses to use a stand such as the buckshot pictured it's just as safe today as the day it was made. Better than a lot of the junk bass pro is selling right now.

I would toss them before I would out somebody at risk for a few bucks, JMO. I hunted out of every one of them for years and they are no more dangerous now than they were then. But as I said, they are being sold for scrap metal.

If I didn't have to get to Sylacauga to get them I'd buy the lot. Those Buckshots are nice climbers.
Good deal for someone here if they use the stands correctly.

Take 50 for all the climbers?? No, but thanks for the offer. The Buckshots are worth $50 each alone. If I were trying to make money out of the deal I would sell them separately and ask a lot more for the better ones. I just got tired of seeing them unused and thought a younger guy would be very happy to get them. I would just give them away, but I've found when you offer stuff for free most folks think something is wrong with it. Or someone will say they want it and resell it.

Those two buckshot are worth $100 each, it's all I can do to keep from screaming I'll take it! But I honestly can't use a climber much anymore and I already got one in North Alabama that I still gotta go get I been putting off all summer. And a barn full of old man climbers right here, and crap I got an addiction!

Later used in in sloughs duck hunting for a perch for my lab. The thing wouldn't die! Still have it, plywood replaced several times. Good memories as I'm sure you have. Yes, I have lots of great memories from those old metal stands. When I made them, the only kind of stand you could buy was a Baker climber or some variation of it. The concept is really simple - cut a slot in the angle iron and stick the chain around the tree and through the slot. You might fall out, but I can't imagine how the stand could fail. I did have a friend who used an old chain with one of similar design and he fell out when the chain broke. That's one reason I won't supply any chains with them. Most of the stands of that era were truly stands - there was no seat and you stood while you were hunting. Designing one with a seat was a big improvement and I had several people copy that design. The seat covers are falling off of mine in the picture; maybe that's what's causing some folks to think they are dangerous. A piece of cloth and a staple gun is all that's needed to fix that. Or just sitting on the wood was a big improvement over standing the entire hunt. Times sure have changed. I've never heard of using one for a duck dog; that's a great idea.

You and I should have a museum. We could, but nobody would come. I understand about the Buckshot; they would just wind up hanging in your shed instead of mine. How quickly would either of us have jumped on this deal when we were in our 20s? This present generation of young hunters has to have a stand with a refrigerator and microwave or they won't go hunting. I thought all of these stands were Cadillacs because I was used to standing on a 2x4 nailed into a tree.
