Not a smartalec question. Am I the only person who's noticed a tremendous amount of handicap tags in recent years? I mean it seems like when I was younger you hardly ever saw one, now you see several just about any time you're on the road.

Is this related to the Baby Boomer generation? (there's just SO many of that age group who are now reaching an elderly age and are handicapped?) Or is it governmental changes that make it easier to get? Whatchall think?

And just for the record, I know I'm opinionated as heck, but this isn't a critique of the handicapped (they don't bother me, and I may be one myself some day). I'm just legitimately impressed by the large number of tags and mirror hangers I see these days.

I’m thinking easier to get maybe? Or maybe more people taking advantage of the shorter walks into the grocery store.

Or maybe you are too observant? laugh

I think the answer is a combo of both your scenarios. We are getting older with the Baby Boomers coming of age and we have a more entitled/sorry mentality in our world. All it takes is a trip to the courthouse and a Dr.'s signature.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

There are exceptions to everything, but I have noticed a certain demogrqphic seems to make up about 95% of the ones I see in use.

I'm no Dr. but most of the people I see using them don't appear to be in bad shape either.

In my apartment complex there are three different college students that have HC tags that live on the 3rd floor and we don't have elevators. None of them are handicapped, maybe retarded, but not handicapped.

not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

I think it's an aging society but I've not paid close attention to those with HC stickers. My dad has emphysema and his doctor would not give him one until his health declined to a certain point. The doctor told him they could get in trouble for giving out bogus stickers.

There is a lot of misuse also, that can't be denied. Some places in the country have volunteers, many in wheelchairs, that enforce the misuse issue and that works great until someone whips on of their butts for ticketing them. It is a great concept but must be carefully thought out in order to work. Most places simply don't have enough officers for real enforcement.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I got a disabled veteran tag and a HC hanger because my doctor said I didn't have sense enough to walk around.

My FIL was a WWII veteran and had a multitude of health issues from the war plus being in his late eighties. When his doctor told him that he could have a HC tag he told him no thanks. He said there are too many fat ass lazy folks with 45 tags that think they need that parking spot worse than him.

Look at some of the guys hunting at the Range. Full disability, HC tag but can climb a tree and drag a deer all day long.
Pisses me off. I know 1 of them well and he just decided he didn't want to work anymore.

My mom has one.. she is 59 and has no major handicap, she had carpal tunnel and had to have surgery on it like 15 years ago and her doc said her wrist will never be at full strength (she has never had any problems using her hand since her surgery) but they gave her one... I would always feel bad when i was with her and she parked in a handicap spot and we both get out with no visible handicap.

They are very easy to get. I know a guy that went to the doctor for a checkup and just asked his doctor for a note approving one. The doctor never even questioned it.

We have two employees who are physically handicapped and refuse to park in handicap. One of them gets pissed if you cut him any lack.

I was issued one when I had my hip replacement that was good for 90 days. I used it maybe 2 times in 3 months. It amazes me at the number of healthy people that have them. I have some in-laws that have no issues what so ever other than extreme laziness that have them.

based purely on personal observation, I'd guess, at best, maybe 1 out of 4 people using them actually need them (and I may be being conservative with that estimate).

My dad calls the handicap scooters at walmart/grocery stores "Handifat Scooters" and, unfortunately, that's what the tags/placards are in most cases.....handifat, not handicap.

I saw a younger woman of color whip into a handicap spot just yesterday, with a Disabled Vet tag on the vehicle. She was the only one in the vehicle. She popped out of the vehicle and walked very fast to the store (in my mind, she was doing cartwheels). As for handicap spots, some people need them and won't use them, some people use them and don't need them, while some people need them and can't use them because some able bodied lazy person is using them...SMH.

This, you can straight up get one because you’re a fatass.
