I think it is an improvement of the current tax code.
My understanding is that it still allows for deduction of State income taxes up to $10,000 per individual, so that takes care of the vast majority of taxpayers.
I wish they would abolish the "Earned Income Tax Credit" - the number one source of fraud and identity theft in the tax code. Believe it or not, the child tax credit is a fast second place source of fraud and abuse.

No- it allows for PROPERTY tax deduction. Not state taxes. Besides shouldn't everyone get a tax cut, since the folks that make more pay more?

It looks like a big ol steaming pile of crap, as expected. Not being able to deduct state income taxes will hurt a lot of folks. No wonder folks get tired of Republicans, they're liberal! steaming pile of crap describes it well. All a politician wants is to say "we passed something..dont matter what it is or if its any good" Just throw it on the wall and hope it sticks. Meanwhile here in the real world we are sucking hind tit. 1/2 of the population pays no tax. Working class pays it for them and we pay their insurance too. Buncha hooey

So basically, folks who live in states which have no state income tax will see no change with this plan...while those of us who do live where there is state income taxes will take a hit.
That's bullsquat.
I'd much rather them do away with the property tax deduction, rather than state income tax deduction.

We should have the option of deducting either the property tax or state income tax. Texans are happy. No state income tax, but high property taxes. Yeah but you already get to deduct property taxes as it is. Just because other folks are getting taxed more wont help you any.

Didn't it double the standard deductible? Which for most people in normal states such as AL is WAY more than you pay in state taxes, so I'd venture to guess it won't really affect people as much as you think. The lib states like New York and Cali, they gonna hate it, maybe they'll force their states to lower their taxes or get the hell out of dodge.
Sounds like what they tried to do is for the average Joe salary probably like the majority of folks on this site, the standard deductible will be the norm.
I live in a state with no income tax, so maybe I'm biased a bit, but I don't see what the big deal is about it except that it just sounds bad on the outside. I'm more hopeful for the changes to corporate taxes, the repatriation tax, etc is good for the economy more so than I'm worried about whether I pay $400 less in taxes.

Does it do anything to help Joe the Plumber?
How about 401k, they leaving it alone?

My research shows 25% from 39.6% they left 401k's alone. I like it think it will improve the economy

Of course you're biased...you're not giving up anything. Those of us who do live in states with an income tax are giving up something.

A big issue being ignored here is the 1.5 trillion added to the debt that everyone suddenly seems ok with.
That doesn't sound very "conservative" to me. It’s like adding more sand to the beach,... It’s not ever getting paid off anyway
