I can't imagine how the family is hurting . Much less how the person she was with feels. Prayers for all of them.

This kinda goes back to my thread about kids killing their first deer and starting them too young. I know every kid matures at a different level, but these kids need to have the safety aspects pounded into them before they start handling a gun. Some may be ready at an early age, some may not be ready until they're teenagers. Some, based on my experience at the public range sunday, should NEVER be turned loose with a firearm. From what I gathered, it sounds like it was the adult friend who was handing a loaded weapon, presumably barrel first, down to the young lady. Some adults are worse than kids with gun safety.

One of the Reasons why i disagree with the hunter safety course being taken soley online now. Some kids are fortunate enough to learn from home, but then there's some (I know a few of them) that has parents that scare the hell out of me, because they know absolutely nothing (But think do) about firearms. I taught hunter Ed for a few years, the original classroom course. Many of the parents would stay and participate with their kids. Lots of them seemed to learn as much as the kids. Likewise, I learned things from them as well, it was valuable interaction.

American society/culture is very competitive, radically individualistic and obsessed with one upsmanship. This bleeds over to people taking their kids hunting when they are way too little to be going hunting. That probably has little to do with this tragic story of the 15 year old girl, but clearly someone did not know and follow basic firearm safety.

This is so sad.
Reminds me of the Will May shooting. Completely accidental and completely preventable.

This is terrible. Hunting season hasn't even really started and a preventable tragedy has occurred. Prayers to the family and everyone involved.

I realize it's not appropriate, but the more I think about it the more if just pisses me off to no end. The "Adult" with her is a freaking idiot and needs his feet held to the fire. At a minimum, a psychological evaluation should administered determine wth their thought process was prior to that accident.
Am I off track here?

IDOT, Maybe or maybe not. I remember the 4yo boy who was shot by his uncle about 10 years ago. There's no law could punish that man worse than what he lives with.

I agree with Out Back....the adult in this situation will have his or her "feet held to the fire" every waking moment for the rest of his or her life. A mistake was made and a horrible accident happened that this person will replay over and over in their mind from now on. Nothing can bring that little girl back but maybe someone can learn from this tradgedy.

I agree, I took it years ago in order to hunt in other states and the instructors stressed to the youngsters about unloaded weapons. My son took the online course this past year and it was a joke.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
