so what can the State Republican Committee actually do about Moore????
The State Republican party can say they no longer back Moore as their candidate and if Moore wins on 12/12 then the election would be declared null and void.
I don't think an election can be declared null and void after the fact. Talk about a major constitutional problem. Not to mention civil unrest.
Under Alabama election law, if the party formally ends their support for him and announces that he is not their endorsed candidate, then if he wins, the election will be null and void and another election would be held. Same thing if he removes himself from the race. This is according to John Merrill the Sec. of State. The same thing would happen if he died before the election.
According to what he said, if Jones won, the election would stand, but if Moore won it wouldn't.
