Just wondering what people are seeing as far as rutting activity around the state(county wise). I hunt North Tuscaloosa County and am hoping to see some good rut activity next week

I think when this steam bath weather passes Christmas day , things will start rockin' in the hardwood jungles of Ol' Hi-Jackson.

My buddy just shot a nice mature buck this evening in Lawrence cty. Following five does. A wide 8 with good mass.

Another guy I know from here just shot one yesterday as well up near Town Creek.

My spot in Lee county is heating up. Been getting a lot of buck pics in the day time and buck sightings have been getting more frequent. Our best time to hunt is generally between christmas and new years so its getting close. The buck I shot this morning showed no real signs of rut though. His neck was not swollen and his hocks weren't any darker than normal. Sure didn't smell very rutty either.

What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

I haven't been to our place in central Morgan county but usually the scrapes will heat up this week and after that it can happen any time for us, just not when I'm out there smile

I'll be getting out when I can. I happen to be on call the 29th-5th and JBatey took off from the 25th-8th. I won't be able to dip out of work those days but will do my best to be in the wood if I'm not working next weekend. I did take off from the 6th- 14th so I'll get some decent time in the woods after the new yr.

Sand mtn, at least around my area, is on the downhill side of it. They're usually on around the 12th-14th around here.

That's what I'm hearing! I can't get there until Jan 10. The Rut was three weeks early this year in Virginia. I have relatives in Tenn, They said their rut was two to three weeks early. I'm abit worried that the deer will be in lockdown when I'm planning to come down. Thanks for the update Ben2.

No such thing as lock down imo. This coming week they will be walking and looking for does. January anytime you may have one chase a doe by you. I like Dec 25-2/10

I've never been a big believer in "lock down phase" myself. A recent study showed it was much shorter , if at all, than most hunters thought. Also modern biologist tell us the peak rut or as I call it peak breeding does not shift more than a few days year to year.
