With bow season only a few months away it's time to start shooting again. I want to try a few longer shots this year because I got burnt on a couple of small buck last year in the 40-50 range. What can I build a backstop out of that will stop my arrows say out past 60 yards? It needs to probably be like 10'x10'.

I have seen pieces of that black expansion material that is used in concrete pours.....know what I am talking about? Anyway, about 1/2 thick and you can get them in full 4x8 sheets. I have seen them ripped down to 12" wide, and cut lots of them up in full 12" wide strips at 8 feet long. Stack them up on top of each other. However tall that you would like. Then take collars to put on top and bottom. Then use all-thread bolts to squeeze them together. Sort of like a huge Block target.

It makes a great wall to stop those arrows. Yes they will penetrate just a little, but easily removed. Will not damage arrows.

But you would need to put a top over this to prevent water/sun damage. I have seen one built like this at a hunting/fishing store. twocents

I use to use an old army wool blanket hanging from a clothes line. Make sure its loose (ie; just attached at the top but bottom just hanging above the ground)and it worked for me

It's hard to generate enough energy in those #2 pencils you shoot to go 50 yards! :p

Not trying to be an ass but if you can't hit a regular target at 40-50-60 yards you sure don't need to be shooting at deer that far away. twocents get proficient in the 20-30 yard range then start moving back

Not trying to be an @ss either but if I could hit something at 60 yard range I wouldn't need a backstop. How can I get good enough to shoot a deer out to that range if I can't prcatice?

I won't shoot at a deer past 35 maybe 40 yds but I like to practice out to at least 50 and 60 yds myself. Heck I even try some 70 yarders for fun.

It makes 30 yds a lot easier. And I like a big target just to help my comfort zone to keep from worring about losing an arrow.
