About three years ago, on youth weekend, it was down in the low 20's. My boy and I had a buddy heater in a shoot house. We warmed up sausage biscuits on the heater as well as Vienna sausages. My boy loves the "cooking" in the blind as much as the hunting. We stayed plenty warm. Now, without a heater, about 30 is the max with the kids. As already said, it just makes it miserable if it's any colder than that.

I can remember at 7 years old hunting Dave Donaldson in NE Arkansas in single digits. That was before youth size neopreme waders, so I had rubber ones. No place I'd have rather been, but that was miserable. We hammered them that morning.

If you plan it properly, it shouldn't be a problem if you're serious about it. With today's gear, clothing, etc. and portable heaters, hot hands, toasty toes, boot blankets, body suits, etc., there is no reason to get cold in a blind or shooting house.
I guess kids were a lot tougher when I was a kid. I'm 70 and when I was a kid and had a chance to go hunting, I went. I grew up in Virginia and lived in Wyoming in Jr high and most of high school, ala cold ain't all that cold. That being said, if they've had enough, take them home. Don't let them have a bad experience, we do it because it's fun, we're not starving

My son and I went last year when it was 17 degrees and windy. It was miserable for both of us.

We went a watched a cutover yesterday mid day and afternoon unfortunately didn’t see a deer. The buddy heater made it tolerable. It was 28 when we got out of the truck and we had a nice north wind in our face.

The secret to a long marriage is to keep on dating, just as you did before marriage. We have "date night" once a week.
Hers is Saturday, mine is Thursday.

The only time a married woman gives those is if your not married to them!

kids can handle the cold better than old adults. my daughter killed her first buck lying on the ground in 17 degrees when she was 10. sure it was cold but not cold enough to have to have a buddy heater. todays kids are just too spoiled they don't need buddy heaters they need role models.
