I placed a flood type lamp in my pits house with a 100 watt bulb,, drilled a hole out of the side close to the roof to run the cord out of and fastened an old metal electric box to cover the cord. I fastened a 2 inch pvc next to and above the box about four ft above the house to keep her out of trouble with the power cord. I kept a nice bed of old blankets and quilts on the floor of the house too.

In the coldest of winter nights and freezes and blizzards many times I would come out to check on her and she'd be cozy and comfy in the house. Many times I also found her laying outside of her house curled up on the bare ground and see she had pulled all her covers out of the house.

A person would think a dog would love being in that kind of set up but not her and not all the time. Go figure.

Yeah, I realize for the most part, dog houses are supposed to be on the smaller side to help contain their body heat. If it gets too cold, he comes inside. This is really more for getting out of the blowing rain and cold wind. Plus I built it big enough for another dog. We are kicking around the idea of getting a second one.

Hell you can't pull our dog out of her house most of the time. It's a plastic 55 gallon drum layed sideways with a door cut in one end and screwed to a 2by treated base. Stuffed full of hay she makes her a comfy little hole and is happy as a lark.

I'm just guessing here.

My thought too. My puppies have never gone into full size crates but will go into smaller crates. Probably same genetic wiring at play here.

Shock collar. Hit him with it until he goes in then turn it off. He'll learn it's his safe place
