In my woods behind my house I shot a doe maybe a 150 yards from me. Walked up on it to realize I shot a hamburger. Smh wish I would have let it walk. I bet it's gonna be tender though. How many of you all have done something like this ?

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Yup I have done it. At 150+/- yds low light etc they always look bigger.

In Texas a couple months ago we had three deer run out into a field one morning. I saw rack height and thought "yep: shooter" and didn't look at the headgear again after that and dropped him....then walked up to a (wide and tall) 4 pointer. Yes I felt like a dummy.

I used to hunt with a fella that killed a chittload of nice 2-3 year old bucks by waiting till last shooting light, thinking he was shooting a nice buck.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I have done this once, and made a set of rattling antlers from it.

That's why it's best to shot a doe when you can see several. A lone deer is often a young buck.

Last Friday evening I had 4, yes 4, yearling bucks in a greenfield. Obviously I thought they were does to begin with, but then I noticed one was a spike. The other 3 had no visible antlers but they had a stubby short face.
They eventually came within 30 yards and it was clear that none of them were over 50# or 60#.

But now they have pills for it, so it happens much less often.

I can't count the times that my Dad will ask me for some deer meat to give to "whoever". Normally I will give him some right then and say I will shot another one later. This normally happens towards the end of season and I don't want to do anything to spook the does or make them nocturnal. Next thing you know its the last week of season and I need a couple does. Well on more than one occasion I have had a group of 3 or 4 yearlings come out in a large field. And on more than one occasion I have carried off 2 yearlings over my shoulder like large rabbits. Even have thrown them in the truck without letting the tailgate down.

But at least at that age they are tender and generally don't run at all.

I shot one this year about that small. I got a new rifle scope combo this year. My first new rifle in 25 years. I had made my mind up I was gonna shoot the first thing I saw. About 15 minutes after light a small deer entered the field, I knew it was small but my mind was already set. I seem to make mistakes earlier in the season when I haven't seen a lot of deer.

I did this several years ago. Watched that deer what I thought was a midsize doe for an hour in a greenfield trying to decide to shoot or not. It finally left for about fifteen minutes then came back right before it was legal shooting light. I decided then I was going to ground check it. The 7mm mag dropped it. I walk up to it and go DAMNITMAN! She wasn't near as big as I thought she was. As a matter of fact She wasn't a she at all! A slingshot would have killed this deer. I shot a dadgum button head!

I go and get my 4 wheeler, grab the deer and head to the truck and trailer before my buddy saw it and laughed. It was so small I hide it under the 4 wheeler. I get to the processor and unload the deer so I could gut it. A few minutes later the owners son which was seven at the time walks out to the deer and say " Mr, that's the smallest deer we have ever got here." Then the kid starts laughing and runs inside to tell all the other hunters there hangin out. I will say it eat mighty fine though.

I was going thru Elba Saturday and a guy in a small Nissan was ahead of me with one of those hauling racks on the trailer hitch. I had to look real hard to see the dang LITTLE deer he had on the rack. I bet it didn't weight 30 pounds.

Was about to climb down one morning bow hunting, looked down in the draw and saw a doe feeding, don't know where she came from. She was about 40+ yards (way back then I shot a pendulum and didn't own a rangefinder), I drew and shot, center punch!!! She ran maybe 50 yards and piled up. When I got over there, the little knothead probably didn't weigh 35/40 pounds live and had faint spots left on the back hips. I felt about ankle tall.
