I used to hunt with a fella that killed a chittload of nice 2-3 year old bucks by waiting till last shooting light, thinking he was shooting a nice buck.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

That's why it's best to shot a doe when you can see several. A lone deer is often a young buck.

That's why it's best to shot a doe when you can see several. A lone deer is often a young buck. Last Friday evening I had 4, yes 4, yearling bucks in a greenfield. Obviously I thought they were does to begin with, but then I noticed one was a spike. The other 3 had no visible antlers but they had a stubby short face. They eventually came within 30 yards and it was clear that none of them were over 50# or 60#.

Ground shrinkage has happened to all everybody..... But now they have pills for it, so it happens much less often.

I did this several years ago. Watched that deer what I thought was a midsize doe for an hour in a greenfield trying to decide to shoot or not. It finally left for about fifteen minutes then came back right before it was legal shooting light. I decided then I was going to ground check it. The 7mm mag dropped it. I walk up to it and go DAMNITMAN! She wasn't near as big as I thought she was. As a matter of fact She wasn't a she at all! A slingshot would have killed this deer. I shot a dadgum button head!
I go and get my 4 wheeler, grab the deer and head to the truck and trailer before my buddy saw it and laughed. It was so small I hide it under the 4 wheeler. I get to the processor and unload the deer so I could gut it. A few minutes later the owners son which was seven at the time walks out to the deer and say " Mr, that's the smallest deer we have ever got here." Then the kid starts laughing and runs inside to tell all the other hunters there hangin out. I will say it eat mighty fine though.

Was about to climb down one morning bow hunting, looked down in the draw and saw a doe feeding, don't know where she came from. She was about 40+ yards (way back then I shot a pendulum and didn't own a rangefinder), I drew and shot, center punch!!! She ran maybe 50 yards and piled up. When I got over there, the little knothead probably didn't weigh 35/40 pounds live and had faint spots left on the back hips. I felt about ankle tall.
We were on the edge of Eternia, when the power of Greyskull began to take hold.
