any buck you see from the stand that is passing by out of range or too quick..hit the grunt call a couple of times. No response hit the horns together for ten seconds and put em down. Have a predetermined plan to put em down. You do not want to be standing there with the horns in yer hand instead of a gun.
Blind rattling I start soft and slow wait several minutes and hit em a lil harder and put em down. See above. I do this every hour or so.
I've killed good bucks at all times of the season in several different counties. It can work

I’ve only had it work in Alabama a handful of times and even then it was mostly does wanting to know what the hell was going on. Can only remember two times I rattled in a buck. There were two other times I had deer crash in and I never put eyes on them. It just doesn’t have a high success rate in this state, but will work occasionally.

especially when bow hunting why would you let a buck walk by at 100 yards and NOT hit him with a grunt or rattle????
I see those dumbasses on TV do it all the time and I know they are rookies then....

Rattle on good cold mornings when you're up in a climber and your scent is rising.

I like it pre - breeding. I rattled in a dandy 143" 5x4 last year, Thanksgiving weekend. Have killed 3 dandies rattling and called in a bunch of little fellers. I don't do it much, I sorta pick my times. I like cold , crisp mornings where the sound carries and I can hear them coming in the leaves.
I usually grunt a time or two really low, wait and watch a few minutes, then do some heavy tickling, wait and watch a few minutes, then let it all hang out! I wanta be heard. I make the heavy rattling sound like a death match.

two times I have rattled and had a doe come running in..and a good buck trailing her by a short distance. I believe she came to the rattling hoping to get her suitor caught up in a fight or looking for a bigger suitor!!!

I know it goes without saying, but don't touch your horns unless you can see good downwind. Yes, just like with grunt response, young bucks and does will come straight in from any direction. The big boy you're after will almost always circle around and approach from downwind. Start with a tickle, pause for a bit and then build up the intensity as was posted above.
"Now boy, are you sure you can skin griz?"
