I was in the woods behind my house maybe a 3 acre plot (I was looking for squirrel but I took a slug and a buckshot just in case) with my 20 gauge. About 4:30 I saw a big buck maybe 50 yards from me. I took my time and landed a shot on em. He did a mule kick and ran maybe 40 yards parallel to where I was. Problem was it was some very thick brush on the opposite side of a creek. I watched his rack moving back in forward in the same place for a few minutes and suddenly it disappeared. I didn't follow it immediately because I wasn't sure he was dead and i didn't want to spook em and force em run further. I heard what might have been 10 more steps and then I didn't hear anything. It had to be maybe 5:15 at this point. So I cross the creek and climb the hill. I found some semi dark blood in a puddle and a trail that runs for about 20 yards. Then nothing or at least I couldn't see anymore because it's dark at this point. I marked the location on my onx app on my phone so I can go look for em in the morning. The problem is its supposed to rain. Dang it I got work cut out for me in the A.M.

A coleman, old style, pump up lantern will illuminate blood like a neon sign.

Do you have permission to track if he ran off the 3 acres?

You better get a light and go find him. Gonna rain tonight and without a dog and no blood trail not good odds.

Every tracker I know just takes donations. And if your on hard times, they wouldn't take it of you tried. It ain't about money to us. Call a dog, we love to help.

Doesn't anyone go in the woods at 11 or midnite anymore to find a deer?

Yep, this. Do the right thing and call a dog and get your buck. It really is that simple.

And this my friend is the BIG problem. I went out there this morning and circled about 200 yards, nothing. Lesson learned, if it's deer season always keep my .308 on my back. Just another memory of my first TRUE hunting season.

So you're NOT gonna call somebody with a dog?

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
