I have some of the Federal TSS number 9 shot in route to me and I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a choke tube. It would be for a Mossberg 835 12 gauge.

Probably won’t matter much, try what you got. Probably shoot great.
Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

I bought me some of the Apex 9’s. Maybe I’ll get to try them out on a 25lb BAMA bird. Good Luck!!

If you wanta brag about how many is in the 10" at 40 , a high $, super duper , extra, extra full. If you wanta kill turkey's, somewhere around a regular full will be fine.

It's going to depend on the OP's desired outcome at given distances and hunting style. If he wants to try and reach out there as a lot of folks going to TSS want to do, my suggestion is you're going to want to go tight with the Federal #9's and less tight with the 7's. My suggestion is card shooting tight, .640 or under with the Federal 9's in the 12GA, if you have a .650 try it.

I use a .585 in the tight barrel. It gives me a kill pattern that is about 16" wide at 40 and will easily kill one at 50.

Ain’t know way I’d go tighter than that. That’s a good way to wind up like those Facebook guys that are blowing up barrels # 8's aren't going to be a federal load. The OP asked specifically about Federal TSS #9's. He also asked about an 835 which is an over bored barrel. I'm assuming your numbers are at 40 yards. 3" or 3.5"?

From what I’ve seen, people that are choking a 12 gauge tighter than .660 with apex 2 1/4 ounce loads are having problems with chokes and barrels cracking. But keep in mind, there aint no dang telling what else they’re doing too. Idk how big of payloads federal is offering, I load my own in 12 and 20.

I currently use a Hevi Shot choke that is .676. It does well with Hevi 13 number 6s. The 835 I have is one of the shorter barreled tactical turkey types if that makes any difference. I want a good hunting pattern. Not looking to win a card shoot but would like to be able to reach out to 50 or 55 yards in a pinch.

As we all know the barrel length will affect it and not all guns like the same loads but I stand by by statement of a tighter than normal constriction for Federal #9's. Ultimately as long as he's happy with the pattern that's all that matters. Personally I'm one that's always trying to do better so I'll always be buying and trying new chokes .... just need time to shoot

I picked up some federal 3 1/2 #9s at my buddy's shop today, plus my apex 3" 2.25 #7.5s came today. Hopefully have some time to shoot in the nxt few days...

The 835 has an overbored barrel. Some of y’all are suggesting way to tight constriction for that gun. Somewhere around .675 is where you want to be with lead. I’m not sure about tss. I would think .690 or so.
