If you don't enjoy fooling with cows then don't get in it. You can make a dollar if you manage your herd right but you aren't going to get rich. I have a few head of brangus mix & right now have a pasture full of newborns. Get a good bull, I got my self in a mess last year during calving season with big calves. I had to pull several & 3 didn't make it. I have a good ultrablack bull now, he throws long skinny calves but they will grow off quickly on grass & milk. Keep a calving season, I put the bull in around the end of May & calves start dropping in March & are sold in September or October. This way I'm not buying hay & feed for calves. Keep every receipt & find a good tax man.

instead of trying to buy you a high dollar bull...do some research on AI.

Can get jam up genetics for a fraction of the cost of owning that particular bull

You know when your cows should calve

Your calves would all be born around the same time; meaning they should be fairly uniform in size

Also..look into online cattle auctions. Smaller county sale barns will go the way of the Dodo in our lifetime

There's farmers around here that will rent you a bull.
Some guys find that cheaper and better than buying until they have a good bull calf raised.

Absolutely!
I've got a freezer full of grassfed beef. It's better than anything you can buy.

Maybe so if he just stays small. But like with any business, start growing and it becomes about maximizing profits, usually at the cost of quality.

I help an older guy, about 70, with his cows some. He has degree in something but I've have found that through his cows he has become a master:
Mechanic
Electrician
Meteorologist
Accountant
Veterinarian
Biologist
Carpenter
Endomologist
Botanist
Dendrologist
Entomologist.

True farmers usually have to do it all.

You could probably make more by tapping a niche market like Wyagu (sp?) beef or even doing your own butchering and sell the meat at farmers markets. Probably a whole lot to that process though.

I don't know you but if you are a man farming without inherited money i know your kind. The kind i just described. Inherited money changes a lot of what you have to know on that list.

I have seen it but paid it no attention. Know nothing about it. But at $69/$99 I would like to know what the cattleman sold it for??

At one time not that long ago you could buy a whole hog cheaper than a fresh ham in the store.

I don't care if it's $1000 a pound.
I'll still put grassfed Angus up against anything you wanna bring to the table.

Kobe is actually a form of wyagu. That beef is expensive but profit margins are the same when you factor the cost of the animals.

Maybe to buy one but when it has babies that cost goes down quite a bit n profits up unless its a 10,000 registration fee
