I would start with some good cow-calf pairs. Buy a decent Bull. Try to raise a black/white face calf. Don't waste time or money with hay equipment. Buy it and store inside a barn. Get some hay rings so they won't waste it all. You will need a good catch pen with a head catch. The extension service offers a Master Cattleman's program so go to it. I've had cattle off and on all my life. Some years you will make good money and some years you will give them away. Overseed a pasture or two with Marshall ryegrass for winter graze. Don't sell your calves till they hit 700 lbs.
