If I could go back in time, I'd have about 10 chicken houses. Have you lost your mind??? Growing up we had 2 chicken houses. 30,000 layers in each house for a total of 60,000 freaking chickens. I hated each and every one of them. They didn't quit laying because it was Christmas day, or Thanksgiving, or birthday, or friends were going to the river. Water lines don't freeze in the summer time. It would get so cold in that water you would lose feeling. In the summer heat the ammonia smell would take your breath. Every dang day!! Screw a chicken, screw an egg, screw Col. Sanders, screw everything poultry related.

I was the dang messican.
I know of one, don't know how many houses, within the last 2 months the owner walked into the bank and gave them the keys to all locks. He too bad had enough.
Seriously, I hated it. But that was nearly 40 years ago and I'm sure the technology makes everything much better.

We don't live far apart. But he has such an ugly attitude toward his neighbors.....They good people and he just won't give them a chance. He's just jealous that I been killing all his turkeys.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

I have done exactly what you are trying to do. I bought some land a few years ago already had good fences on it and was broke up in to two pastures. I bought it for my wife and mine future home place. I hated to just have someone to cut the hay to keep me from bush hogging it. Last year I bought a few head of cow. From what I have learned don't plan on making much money but it is satisfying watching them grow and seeing your herd get bigger. What has saved me is having good neighbors to help you with what you don't have and to answer questions. Good luck. We started in Clayton with a couple of house in Louisville. Then we moved here and built the big ones, for that time anyway. We were top of the line automated with all Big Dutchman equipment. And it was still all day, everyday.

Yes, I’m not depending on it as my main source of income. I have a good full time job with flexible hours. I enjoy being around and working cattle and I want my little boy to grow up in it, working cows and the responsibilities that come with it are good things for a kid to be around and learn from. Friend of mine has good full time job and raises cattle, chickens, and quail after work. Always working but seems to enjoy it. Not sure how many cows and bulls he has but just had 5 new calves. From what I understand, he does really well raising quail. Seems like the money is in the quail.
