I have no idea if it is true, makes a good story though.

I've always had my doubts about that story. Can't remember when I heard it or who told me but it was at least 30 years or more ago. I would guess that if you had never heard it in your position it is probably a BS story.

RIP Archie.

My dad and I, along with a couple of friends were on his show back in the early 90’s Bowfishing. He was a hoot to shoot with. I’ll never forget Archie showing up one night with a bag full of those big cherries you get from the grocery store. He ate all them things in about an hour. We let him off on the bank multiple times before he finally said “it’s time to go”. RIP Archie. I know you’re happy and not in pain any longer.

Guess he's walking through a wide open field and fishing in an ocean so deep. Riding the longest river in the world or climbing the highest mountain peak.

I used to watch that show with my granny and paw paw all the time, they were good friends. I have a bass he mounted probably 40 years ago my granny caught and still looks great.

It isn't necessary to see a good tackle...you can hear it.

It’s true or if it’s a lie Archie told it, Archie has told that story a few times. He just went instinct when it jumped up, said he would never have done it on purpose and laugh like he was possessed when he told it.

Dang. I haven't thought about him or his show in years until today when I drove by his shop while in B'ham area. Get home and see this. I used to think about how lucky he was watching the show as a kid because he got paid to do what he loved and we all would love to do. The one show he did that I will always remember was when he went on a crow hunt and they cooked and ate Stir Fried Crow with the kills. Crow is one thing not high on my list to eat.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I guess the statue of limitations is prolly out and neither are able to do it anymore so another funny about Archie

Some wardens also spent a whole lotta time trying to catch him and a friend spear fishing for bass, they had them caught several times, they just never thought to look under a floating boat for an eye hook with a net attached. Archie and Allen would always make the last dive in a place they could drive close to the water after the boat was loaded and not close to the launch to stake out the net and pick it up on the way out

RIP Archie. This was probably one of the first hunting shows I ever watched.

Archie and old Virgil Ward were probably the two oldest outdoors shows I can remember. Red Holland was a little later.

I’ve been reading a lot about Archie since many of y’all seem to adore him, and all the stories I see about him are getting baiting turkey tickets, shooting deer outta season, taking bass illegally..... sounds like a real outlaw. Why don’t yall give him the same treatment as other poachers/ game law violators?

Make no mistake Archie was an outlaw and kinda crazy. I knew him pretty well but wouldn’t go adore. He spent millions of his money making the outdoors better even though he set his own rules sometimes.

Many of the habitats y’all fish in the gulf other than oil wells, he paid for. Buying Tanks, Bradley’s and ships to prep and sink some with his money and some with grants he spent money lobbying and fighting for.

He sued the Corps of engineers for dumping buey batteries in the warrior river and won forcing them to remove years of old batteries and changing the disposal practice
He also Made a fortune on the cleanup process in a backdoor deal.

Rehabbing lakes and streams throughout the state at his expense or suing the parties responsible for the misuse at his expense and gaining nothing personally except making it better.

He did things he shouldn’t but did a lot more good for all of us also.

Don't know about the other stories but the turkey baiting ticket was bs. He had purchased some more land next to some he had. The neighbor who hunted there illegally didn't like it when he was told to keep off. Archie was gone somewhere for two weeks and when he got back went turkey hunting. The neighbor showed the Game warden the bait which was five kernels of wheat on Arhie's land but not really close to where Archie was hunting. The neighbor had baited it on Arhie's land. Archie carried it to the higher court and won. He was a good guy who got the Cahaba Management area started.

It may not be in his bank account, but he has it in land, I assure you.

He owned hundreds of houses and commercial properties in Ensley, Wylam, Dolomite, Fairfield, Pratt city and Mulga. He had all those houses bringing in every month in section 8 payments more than he paid for them when he bought them
I know for a fact at one point he was getting over $325k a month in section 8 payments alone.

Archie had a lot of people fooled playing poor ole country boy. I bet he spent half a million building and stocking his end of the world shelter in 98, 99 cause he was one of the folks convinced that the world would end at midnight 2000

It was more than 5 kernels or wheat and some of the wheat had sprouted. But, you are correct, he won it one appeal.
