Being serious for a second, I don't really care one way or another about the Glock/1911 debate. I carry a Glock...I love it. I don't own a 1911 but I'd love to have a nice, high-end one - but I'm not sure I'll ever be willing to spend, on a pistol, what a nice 1911 costs. Pistols, ultimately, are tools, and I just can't justify spending $1500-2000+ on a "good" 1911 when a $500 Glock is as good or better...and I'm damn sure not going to carry and trust my life to a "cheap" 1911.
I've just never understood why 1911 owners get so defensive and butthurt at the slightest criticism toward a 1911. Snowflake mentality if ever there was one......

I own several 1911s, a few I inherited from my Dad, who shot competition 1911s, plus a few high end 1911s I bought. I love 'em. My carry gun in my car is a Glock 22. I think the love for the 1911 was entrenched in the service guys, like my Dad, who would NEVER own a Glock ("damn plastic POS!!!") Diff'rent Strokes. Plus, I'm not a hater like some a you ornery bastiges....

In a hypothetical world where average 1911's were the same price as Glocks and had the same reputation for reliability, I would still choose a Glock over a 1911 simply for the mag capacity. Sure, we can argue .45 vs .40 vs 9mm etc, but finding a caliber you can put on target consistently is a whole lot more important than the diameter of the projectile. based on all the research I've done, I am 100% confident the .40 self defense ammo I use is more than sufficient to get the job done. And I can carry double the rounds, per mag, as an average 1911.....and that's with the compact Glock (mid-size). When you consider the purpose is for self-defense, that alone should be reason enough.

The 1911 jokes are pretty entertaining though. And that's really all it is...jokes. Why someone would take the Glock-1911 debate so personally and get so defensive about it is baffling to me.

a properly tuned 1911 is no more prone to jamming than a glock. I carried a Colt light weight commander for many years and it never jammed with the ammo I carried in it. Bullit shape and the feed ramp make all the difference. Unless ya just plain limp wrist it like some do.....

Only ones I ever recall seeing, other than true customs, was like a Para or Taurus or some such.... Give me 16rds of .40 over 8rds of .45 any day.

I ain't shooting a double stack 1911 or a Glock 45 , the frames are too dang big and fat. If you cannot end a fight or at least fight yer way to safety with 8 rounds of 45, ya need to work on yer shooting/survival skills. I carry a Glock 22/40 cal because I shoot it best under stress conditions. I don't know why Glock dosen't make a 45 with the same frame as a Glock 22 to fit my hand.

That may be true, but even if it is,the Glock will shoot fine without tuning and keep shooting after your 1911 goes out of tune.

Otherwise they have been very reliable. I also have a colt commander 1911 that I traded for from a member here. We shot 200+ rounds down it last week and it was flawless except for one brand manufacturer. It even fed aluminum case federal flawlessly.

I love my 1911s but carry a Glock or M&P Shield daily. That's funny Gomer!

In general though any stock G-19 would run better and longer than any stock 1911 from any manufacturer. Several may argue but that's just my opinion. I might buy a cheap 1911 just to play with but I would certainly choose to carry a Glock or M&P before I would choose to carry a cheap 1911. I would carry it though if I had shot it enough to make sure it was reliable and replaced any possibly problematic parts. In general I'm just not going to carry any CCW that has safeties I have to disengage before firing.

Well.....some of us are proficient enough with our weapons that we don't need double the rounds. Maybe you should learn ro shoot. Of course you Glock shooters like to hold your Glocks sideways and "spray and pray" gangsta style. I like'm both really but my 1911's are my favorite.
