Don’t list it if you don’t want those questions. I’m hoping for a deal from anyone I know.

I see what yall mean but yall also kinda sound stuck up lol. If you have something that others want....your gonna get asked. Plain and simple. Yall should be grateful that your blessed instead of complaing about it. Having things or positions that others would want is a blessing. Sounds like yall are being ungrateful and not enjoying what you have. That phrase....dont forget where you came from? Which some cant relate to that because they were born with a silver spoon. No pun intended. Be thankful for what you have...dont complain about it lol.

Do yourself a favor, and list it on vrbo. Biggest mistake people can make with a rental is half assing it. That’s where all the complaints you hear come from. Treat it like a business, and you will realize that dealing with people who are ecstatic to be going on a vacation is the best money related interactions you will ever have.

I take advantage of family or friends offers. But I go out of my way to find a way to help them in some fashion. The benefit to me is admittedly greater than what they get in return. But usually it’s something they can’t do themselves or they need a partner to complete. I will ask a stranger for something (like hunting privileges) but wait for friends or family to ask me to come along. It’s much preferred for us to do something together than I use their stuff without them there.

I have a friend at work and they have 3 condos in Destin. Nice condos. They rent them all the time. They got tired of getting ripped off by VRBO. She now lists them on her own website and gets more traffic there. She uses various means such as Facebook to direct traffic there, but now she just has a loyal following. I can assure anyone it's anything but "half assing" it. They've already paid for two of the condos and are paying off the 3rd one.

VRBO is kind of like the Uber of rentals. You create an app that uses other people's time, capital investments, hard work and resources, and then take about 40% of the cut for basically doing nothing and risking nothing. And then play all kinds of games with the people you are ripping off like listing them way down the search if they opt for a less expensive plan, holding your money, etc...

Interesting reviews from renters and owner's of vacation rental property owners:

https://www.consumeraffairs.com/online/vrbo.html

I think VRBO may have started with a good plan, but they have strayed far away from that now.

Great input on the websites and what ever VRBO is.
I know nothing of rentals and don't plan to, but it amazes me of the info we have here on Aldeer.

Better be careful though, or we're gonna get charged a fee for using this site and all the good info we get off of it.

*thinks for a minute* loco

But there is a lot of Bull Poo to wade through as well. laugh

Carry on.

We used VRBO the entire time we rented our house in gatlinburg until we sold it. I can assure you they don’t charge any where near 40. They charge 5% and they charge a yearly flat fee of a few hundred dollars. Home Away is another good company and actually owns VRBO.

Buy a trailer or tractor and you will see how much nerve your neighbor(s) continuously have. I'm thankful for what I have worked hard for but it gets old coming home and wondering who is gonna stop by asking for a favor or to borrow something, then they get ticked when you say no or you don't have time that day. Give an inch and some take a mile.

Today's society, especially the younger folks, don't care about this, either, unfortunately. They just see it as "that's how it goes" and continue to use it, or they transition to the next thing. They're more fluid.

The companies like Uber know this. Once they get you hooked then they know they can do whatever and still keep the market.

So, how is your hunting lease? How about you just let me hunt for free there for the season? I mean, I know you work hard making money to join a fine lease, have a nice 4-wheeler/truck, rifle, camper to stay in. I also know you work hard planting food plots, working the land, managing your herd, etc..., but I don't belong to a club and haven't shot a deer in several years. So, how about you just explain to your fellow club members that you don't want to sound stuck up, or like you have forgotten where you came from, so your going to let me come down there and hunt all season for free, using all your stuff, and shooting whatever I want? I mean, after all, I wasn't born with the hunting version of a silver spoon in my mouth.

Not giving away what you own or work hard for isn't stuck up or having a silver spoon. It's merely being smart. The number of freeloading begging assholes who, like ford150 said, come out of the woodwork wanting freebies or discounts is pretty remarkable.

This just makes me know I need to charge you double so you can brag about the 25% discount you got out of me wink. You win, I win, everybody wins.
