I like the way this sheriff handles things, he's a very outspoken guy against thugs. But, I can't get comfortable one way or the other on this particular case. Seems the driver has plenty of options other than shooting. But, stand your ground doesn't mean you have to chose those options.

The only way he doesn’t have a chance to shoot you is if you shoot him first. Any other action could get you shot. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I am absolutely comfortable with it. I also pray that I am never in that situation. Once someone produces a gun against you, you have zero way to know if and when he will pull the trigger and you are dead. In my opinion, once someone presents that gun any action you take afterwards is self defense.

Just noticed that is a cell phone in his hand not his gun. Still comfortable with it.

Totally justified.

IMO, This one is totally justified.

The Polk County Sheriff's name is Grady Judd. He is well liked by the law abiding citizens of Polk County, and don't take no crap. In another interview a couple years back, He advised " if you're comfortable with firearms, you should get a carry permit and carry one. And if you have to shoot someone, shoot 'em a lot!".

This is the part I agree with. If he was black, it would be a complete media fiasco. I only watched it once, but I didn't notice the guy reach to his wasteband. If that's true, I agree it's justified. When I saw it on tv this morning I thought he was waiving a gun, not a cell phone.

. This is part of my issue. We don't know if he got "run off the road". We heard what the sheriff said, but it doesn't look like he's off the road. No one is going to make me stop that easy and especially without physical contact to my vehicle. We just don't know.

block someone in on a public road, tell them you have a gun then ask if they want to get shot thats a textbook example of self defense you dont have to actually produce a weapon just threaten to use one and you can and should be shot.

Unfortunate dude got killed but the offender brought it on himself.
Shouldn't have attempted to stalk his girlfriend. Shouldn't have blocked him in. Shouldn't have exited the vehicle. Shouldn't have advanced aggressively. Shouldn't have said he had a gun.

The news channel this morning said "he didn't have a gun" it wasn't clear if they meant just on his person or in the vehicle.

I may have slamed into reverse and tried to quickly get away first but untill it happens I truely think it's real hard to know what you'd do. It all happened so fast.

The whole thing happened very fast, and the Uber driver was out in the middle of nowhere in the Black dark.

Once forces me to stop my car, my gun is out. One gets out of the car and moves toward me, you will be drawn upon. Yell I have a gun, my trigger finger is now on the trigger. Reach for your waist, the trigger will be depressed. Then I am saying I was in fear of my life calling 911 and PMing doekiller.

More importantly he was able to give a good explanation as to why he feared for his life with more than he said he had a gun.

Several years ago I was leaving a Publix parking lot and accidently cut a guy off. It was summer time, had his windows down, guy is a long haired tattoed up with some ol gal in the truck with him. He is cussing and screaming calling me everything in the book. I eased forward and got behind an old lady wating to pull onto the hiighway. Guy gets right on my ass as I'm waiting to pull out then exits his truck and started walking towards my door still raising hell with many watching. I stick my head out the window and told him I was sorry and that I didn't see him. He keep yelling. The whole time I have a .40 in my hand. He finally said "FK it" ,then yells something about what he was fixing to do and goes back to his truck and grabs something out from under the seat. It was a pistol. Just as he was coming back around his door and traffic cleared, the old lady pulled out and I quickly followed. Glad it ended that way because someone was about to die and I hoped it wasn't me. Saw the guy just the other day and several times in between and he always stares.

I don’t understand road rage. Rather someone cuts you off accidentally or intentionally. Just let it go.

But if someone stops and comes towards you and threatens you and your family then it’s on.

grady judd is the man. met him before and know many polk county officers... this shooting was totally justified, If someone is willing to almost run you off the road and force you to stop in the road, what else are they willing to do? i'm not waiting around to find out.

I love Sheriff Judd, just google him. But, my gut feeling says this doesn’t end well. I don’t know why, and I hope I’m wrong, but it just looks fishy. Driver just graduated from the Police Academy, it’s all on camera and you don’t see it all. You don’t see any video from what happened before, the shooter never really says anything, just weird. If he was chasing his girlfriend, it seems their should have been video from earlier. I mean how many times have you been just minding your own business, riding down the road and someone pulls in front of you like this? Just not your normal redneck road rage smile

It is definitely an odd situation. I am sure he had been tailgating them for a while so it didnt come completely out of the blue. What is odd to me is, why does he want to beat on the Uber driver anyway? He thinks his ex is in the car but he knows it's just a driver and not a new boyfriend from what the texts are reported to say. What the shooter says first doesn't make much sense either. All in all it does look justified.

I love SYG. If I am legally allowed to be there (anywhere), I am NOT retreating. Bang flop.

There's a lot of this on this site. I'm doing everything in my power to get out of a situation like that without pulling the trigger. I have a lot better things to do for the next three years than go to lawyers offices, court rooms and police stations. Not to mention the nightmares. And I've been in exactly that situation before minus the guy screaming "do you want me to shoot you". But he did threaten my life. Once he realized I was armed the situation was over. I still see the guy every now and then, I don't think he recognizes me, but I wonder if he says his prayers and thanks the Lord everyday he isn't dead.

I’ve been in a similar situation with a road rage driver. After following me for several blocked yelling st me. He actually pulled a gun in me and held it up in the air. I pulled my gun and pointed it at him. I informed him that I didn’t pull mine to show it off, that I would kill him. He turned, got back in his car and took off. I was prepared to shoot him if he didn’t retreat. I’ve spoken to several police officers and DAs about it and every one has said I would have been justified in killing him. However, why kill someone when you don’t have to? My goal is not to kill someone just because I can legally.

I understand stand your ground and self defense, probably better than most on here, but because you can, doesn’t mean you should. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life thinking about why I killed someone when I could have avoided it.

Did the article say what type of gun and ammunition? Seemed effective.

my dad pulled his pistol 6-8 times on people as a last resort and in one unfortunate situation after no less than 30 seconds of verbal warnings and a warning shot, shot a guy. My dad would fight a brick wall but in this situation he said repeatedly that the thought to kill him never occurred. Shot him mid thigh. Dude hit the ground and crawled back the way he came from. As the cops turned on the street 300 yards away, he unloaded his pistol, had the action back with his Co permit and license on the hood and standing there with his hands up. Every cop that responded to the call shook his hand and said what a good job he did (which created the neighborhood Wyatt Earp....). He has told me since I was big enough to use a pistol to shoot till it clicks. Still can’t believe he didn’t kill the guy

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........
