The very worst thing you can do is get trapped in a vehicle when it hits. Now you want to listen? Where the hell have you been in the past? I hope you come thru this, but you really made some piss poor decisions. Do you think all the media coverage is a joke? SMDH Didn't you notice the sane people left? Geez, relax. He's in Fort Morgan. He's gonna get some rain and maybe enough wind to blow over his mai-tai's. I'm in Pensacola and I don't know a single soul that left except for folks on Pensacola Beach. Guess we're all insane...

My friend I am calm, but I'm worried about you goobers in harms way. We have so many friends in that area. I hope they made good decisions and got out if possible. Not everyone can due to their jobs! Stay safe guys, use good judgment! A lot of people that were told to evacuate from Katrina didn't and came to regret it. It's always best to err in favor of caution. That storm could still turn West.

Not good at all, cape San blas is about to be wiped out. I’m afraid your right. We just vacationed there last week and I remember driving onto the cape and thinking the whole place would be underwater if they ever had a bad hurricane.

Great movie. I remember being in the the theater when it came out and it was packed and people were literally rolling on the floor laughing. Back to the news...

Something that I haven’t seen mentioned is the timing. Better now as things are tapering off than at the very heart of the tourist season.
There’s never a good time but there are worse times. This week was fall break for a lot of schools, ours included. It was tough finding a condo/house that wasn't booked in PCB. I would guess this week was the last big week for most of the businesses down there.

There’s never a good time but there are worse times. That is why I mentioned in a earlier post about the economic damage this storm could have done to Alabama had this storm come straight up Mobile bay. Over 65% of this state"s tourism dollars come from Baldwin County. It take years to recover from a hurricane of this magnitude.

Not what I meant at all. My point was we are seeing more than a 50% variance between reported winds and what the actual on ground data says. There has to be an explanation. I'm betting that is the difference. It doesn't matter what the wind speed is. Sure 145 is a lot worse than 70 but any sustained wind over even 50mph for several hours is going to do a lot of damage. I was in south FL for business right after Andrew and there was nothing but concrete slabs and piles of rubble where hundreds of houses were standiningbweeks earlier. I mean nothing left but the concrete foundations. It was terrible destruction like you've never seen.
I delivered 220,000 lbs of bottled water to Homestead 3 days after Andrew. I was appalled at the devastation! "Nothing but concrete slabs" is no exaggeration...it looked like a bulldozer with a 30 mile wide blade drove straight across S. Florida. Where I got unloaded at, there was NOTHING taller than 3 or 4 feet left, as far as you could see.

I worked at Andalusia PD all night, that night. 100-110 mph winds for what seemed like forever! I was convinced that my place, a mobile home, at the time, was going to be all over the county when I finally got to see it. Amazingly, there was one small limb and some leaves down in my yard, and that was it! In town fared much much worse, though.

[quote=mcninja]Skinny and other wather experts: we’re down here in Fort Morgan with the fam for fall break. Y’all think it’s safe to sit tight or head north? I’m fine with rain, wind, traffic, hassle, etc. but don’t want to be stupid and ignore real danger if there’s a chance this thing decides to cut West...what say ye? Josh stay put. It took me 10 hours to get home yesterday. I would have stayed (was in Ft Morgan too) to avoid all the early evacuees but had a business to attend too. You will be fine in Fort Morgan. Prepare for loss of power.

Thanks Larry. I appreciate the care and concern and counsel. You should be fine where you are but there is still a little time to leave. I drove from Fairhope over to west mobile and back this morning to check on some stuff and cut some grass and traffic is not bad today like it was yesterday.

To late to leave now. People get stuck out on roads and end up in worse shape. Abolt 300 have you ever been thru a storm on the coast? I've been thru Erin, Opal and several more. After Ivan I said I would not stay in another one. Things get pretty hairy when power is off and you hear things hitting your house. Ivan - my mother had dryers in her yard (off scenic hwy near interstate 10). Ivan was a SOB.
