There is no void, or "No Man's Land", between the spine and lungs. There is, however, quite a bit of room above the spine.
I'll have to disagree with you & Shaw.If I knew how to post pictures I would show ya'll a big 8pt a buddy shot last Monday that we're still getting pictures of & can plainly see the exit wound below the spine. Just my 2 cents...

Show me where this "void", between spine and lungs, is in the picture below.... As Shaw said, the spine dips a LOT lower than most folks realize....there is no "void" between the spine and lungs to speak of, as you can see from the picture posted. I also saw a picture of a deer someone killed on Archery Talk a couple of years ago, though I can't find the thread now, where the guy's broadhead hit both the spine AND the top of the lungs. You CANNOT put an arrow in a [anatomically healthy] deer that goes between the spine and lungs without hitting one or the other (or both).

That is a very interesting picture. Thanks for educating me, guess I've always been told/taught wrong. My buddy didn't missed by much, exit was a good 6" below the top of his back.

Good story. Good to hear. Congrats on getting the deer. I have never had one help me drag one, but I have had one waiting on me at the road as soon as I drug one out by myself. Btw: that reminds me. Has anyone seen a young brunette lady game warden up in the Jackson County area? My cousin and I spoke to her in passing at a gas station a little while back. We were looking at each other kind of shell-shocked like "damn, is this a joke?" She was very easy on the eyes and seemed to be nice as well. I could be wrong but I believe you are talking about Dave Owens(COVE on aldeer) of the Pinhoti Projects girlfriend Courtenay. She is a waterfowl biologist up around Jackson county.
