I'm going to buy a new rifle ,just looking for a little bit of info from you hard core hunters,270,30/06,or 308 /7.62 .Which one is the best for long range,up close and personal, and knock down power thanks for any and all information.

All 3 are great. Not a dimes worth of difference as far as the deer is concerned.

I'd get a .308 because it's a short action and can be had in a smaller rifle OR in a larger. Virtually unlimited choices in ammo for all three.

I went gun crazy and thought I needed every caliber. Always go back to the ole 30.06. It’s more accurate than I am. I won’t shoot over 300 yards as I don’t think it’s an ethical shot for me

They will all kill. 308 is the new sexy caliber for a lot of people, 30-06 has been used by hunters and armed forces forever, 270 is widely available and ammo is cheapest of the 3.

I liked the 30.06 and had a BAR for a while. It was stolen along with all the rest and when I bought another browning , for some reason I went with an x bolt 270. I like it Nd have shot a lot if deer with it. I think either of those calibers will get it done. Get what you want.

It be's that way sometimes.

Dead is dead but I choose to hunt with a BAR 308.

I like .308 because ammo is cheaper and more available and it has less recoil any of the 3 is more than enough to kill deer in alabama id stick with the .308 or 30-06 a .270 is to a 30-06 what a .243 is to a .308.

If you're not a hand loader, I'd choose one that offers the best, modern pressure loads and in wide variety. If you're like most people, you're probably pressing your skills taking a shot over a couple of hundred yards. Any of those listed will do the job out further than 95% of hunters should be taking shots under field conditions. There's also a dozen or so more that will too.

Find a rifle that you like, spend at least as much and up to twice as much on the scope as you do on the rifle. I prefer Remingtons, but like other's too. IMHO, a Rem 700 is hard to beat out of the box for accuracy, but others may have another preference. I like Swarovski Scopes, other's like other brands. Cheap ain't the way to go on glass IMHO. For good factory load options you can look at 260 Rem, 7-08, 270, 7mmRem Mag, .308, 300 Win Mag. The 270 and 300 WSM come in many rifle platforms, offer a lot of bullet options in factory loads, guns with short actions, and plenty of punch at any reasonable distance.

FWIW, if I were making a purchase of ONE gun, I't probably choose a bolt action 300WSM. YMMV.

The .308 is not "new" by any stretch. It may be cycling back into awareness for some reason but it ain't new.

The caliber isn't new, the "new" obsession seems to be.

Depends if you want a SA or LA. All 3 calibers of ammo can be had locally but i know during ammo scares 308 is first off the shelf of the 3. Plinking rounds(fmj)can be had for all 3 also. Good choice of projectile kinds and weights for all 3if you handload

Jack O'Conner said .270 so I agree with him.

The 270 and 308 is my go to calibers only because I don't own an '06
