Looking for recommendations on outfitters in alabama. Looking to take my 9yr old somewhere in January where he would have decent chance of killing a buck. Not necessarily looking to kill a monster he would be tickled with a 100" 8 pt

Haha same here.

Matthew Gentry - I don't have first hand experience with AL outfitters, but from what I've gathered on here, the odds of seeing way more and way bigger deer go up exponentially if you're willing to travel a bit. Even places in TN, KY and other not too distant states can offer far better hunting for the dollar. I know it would be a haul for y'all, but my oldest boy (he'll be 9 soon) and I were able to hunt central Texas last season, and that was a real eye opener for me. We saw more deer in 3 days of hunting (free range, no fences) than I've seen in entire seasons hunting in AL. If y'all could budget some time for travel then I'd think your odds for putting some horns on the ground would jump exponentially. Best of luck. I'll be tuned in and fingers crossed for y'all!

this i would think a youth out of state license wouldn't be super expensive

Texas youth license is $7, resident or not.

Personally, I wish I could move to Texas for deer season, and come home after.

If my wife would move with me, I would move out there full time. Hunting in Texas, regardless of high/low/no fence, is so different from the Southeast that most folks won't believe you if you tell them about it. I'm talking about quantity of game as much as quality.

Hard to get bored in the stand if you see 20-60 deer in an average afternoon sit.

If you want him to have a chance go to water valley lodge or leave the state.

Hunting brings out the worst in people.

YEP by far would be a school hunt. MUCH MUCH better chance for a deer at half or 40% of price of lodge. Very very few have a successful lodge hunt in bama.
