States "up North" have fees , licenses , permits , tags for everything! They are over governed at every turn, they are used to it and accept it.

My former boss lived in Indiana a while. He didn't live in a town or city, had to get a permit from the county to make simple repairs to the exterior of his garage . He was from Michigan said they were bad but Indiana was worse and he got outa there quick as possible. He loved living in Jackson County Alabama.

Ha I would take the Hunting in the State I am talking about any day of the week over here with tags, permits and all which really is not much at all.....don’t knock it until you try it. I have yet to meet an Alabama hunter that said dang I wish I hadn’t come up here hunting lol

I have tried it. I've only seen one deer outside Alabama bigger than what I've killed here. I spend my out of state $ hunting Elk and such.

Well for this coastal guy the bucks are definitely bigger than anything I will ever kill in Mobile country, but that’s not the reason I like it so much. I enjoy it because I see deer and a lot of deer. It reminds me of hunting in Alabama back in the 80’s and early 90’s except of course the average bucks are bigger than around here.

I know of ONE processor who’s taken in over 3% of the total recorded harvest. I don’t think 18,000 is even close.

Therein lies the problem.....nobody knows!!

Either the enforcement is going to have to be stepped up dramatically, a different concept developed, a realistic correction factor utilized.....or, just scrap it.

But, haphazardly guessing at compliance numbers based on varying opinions is not gonna help anything.

1 processor...all Alabama deer...over the GC #. Ok, now that is astounding info. How many processors in same county?? Doesn't really matter, I'm just curious.

With the current system, how do you step up enforcement?

Well, I was stopped a couple of times the first couple of years that GC was started to ensure that I had my liceksesbamd my deer were checked in.
I have not seen, or heard of, that happening around here the last few years.

I also think that deer taken to processors should be required to have a GC Confirmation # and it recorded along with other info on deer.

I wonder what percentage of deer never go to a processor. I know we used to never take anything to one. We occasionally do now only to ave speciality items made, but do most ourselves. I wonder how many ppl still clean and store their meat at home without processing. I bet it’s nowhere near as many as it used to be. I know a lot of hunters who couldn’t process a deer if you showed them how step by step.

It isn't the processor's job to enforce chuck's rules.
Should we require gas station owners to verify license and insurance, too?

I am not a big fan of GC, honestly.

But, it is a Regualtion and we are supposed to abide by it.

If we are not going to follow it, why stop there?
It is Black and White......no grey area involved.

So, you consider yourself an honest and ethical Hunter.

But, you don’t follow the State Regulations on Game Check????

It does not work that way!

We ustah take the first 3 or 4 we killed and getem cubed, ground, and sausageified....rest ovem got quartered an cooked whole on the smoker. Seemed like we hardly ever ate any meat that wudnt deer. Myself...i get burger an cubed steak, the rest ill cook with in various other ways. Texas is the land of the deer processor...they got deer processing operations down there that are like goin to a comercial butcher...theyll process thousands of deer per season..my favorite...granzines meat market...place is absolutely amazin...kinda like a publix...but they got wild game meat and process..beef,pork,wild game of any kind and cut it to order...an it smells amazin. Dszukes meat market is another good one..both are of the highest quality preparation ive ever seen....both arevery expensive tho. Granzines makes a jalepenjo and cheese deer tomale that is unreal.

Almost everybody I know takes the deer they kill to a processor. I use to cut up my own deer but is so much easier and can get stuff I can't make at home so I now take them to the processor. I would guess that over 75% of all the deer killed In Alabama is taken to a processor. They are everywhere 4-5 In every county around here.
