Loggers pay their crew to cut trees and load them onto trucks. That is how they get paid. Riding around collecting cameras and stands doesn’t pay the bills.

I’m not gonna destroy someone’s equipment or retaliate in a manner like that. I have more character and morals than to retaliate that way. I’m out a few hundred bucks and another lesson learned. Had I known that they were going to move to that area I would’ve retrieved them before but they weren’t suppose to be in that area according to what info our club president got. I walked the area (not very large yet) where they cut no evidence of a busted camera/climbing sticks there or at loading area. It is what it is but it’s very frustrating to say the least. I work hard for my $ as I’m sure most of you do. Maybe it will turn up and maybe he just needed it worse than me. Either way I can’t change it and one thing life and the legal system has taught me is that no one gives 2 shits about me, just move on and count my losses. I try to look at this way, in my job I see people who are diagnosed with or someone they love is diagnosed with a disease or terminal illness so I’m thankful that this was my bad news, it can be replaced eventually, just frustrates me.

It has been my experience as a forester that a good many club presidents are terrible about getting information out to the whole club membership for whatever reason. I have had a few run ins with hunters whether it be logging, cruising, or marking timber, where the club member did not have a clue that anything or anyone was going to be in the area. This has happened on several occasions when the club presidents had been coordinated with by both the landowner and me personally, well in advance. It is very frustrating to say the least when people don't communicate with their club members.

This^^^ is VERY OFTEN the issue.

I will say that loggers moved in by us this week and it was a surprise to the club. President probably knew though.

I bet the club dues were too. Be a good way to get booted from the club.

You can't set your clock or calendar with logging crews moving. Weather, mill demands, lack of truck drivers, mechanical delays and a bunch of other things make a difference in when a crew is moving. The forester over the tract is the best contact and they often can't tell you a lot. Talk about sabotage to a loggers equipment should be enough to get somebody kicked out of a club and banned from any hunting lease.

who said to talk about it? in general companies are responsible for their employees behavior if they tear my stuff up and then deny it it can go both ways. its not difficult to cut the strap and lay a stand down as opposed to just letting it fall with the tree now a game camera i can see getting looked over but when they purposely tear up a stand that is BS. most of the loggers ive dealt with are good and will allow you to mark a few trees to leave for stand location, not cut the trees your stands are on or if they do leave them on the ground intact. some are assholes and will tear your stuff up on purpose if the dont steal it and will have 1 or 2 workers that show up early every morning to "hunt" land they are only supposed to be cutting what really pisses me off is theyll cut the tree with the stand on it then leave the tree on the ground with stand still attached wont even harvest the timber screw em

What continues to be overlooked in this episode is that it was a 'lock on' stand. Lock on stands typically are not easily noticed by anyone, much less loggers. I hate that you lost your stuff but I can see how easily it would be for a stumper not to even notice it.

The same thing happened to me years ago when I was in a club in evergreen. Just count it as a loss and move on. The positive side is deer are curious and you could probably kill a good buck right there where they are cutting. I started making friends with the logging crew and they would tell about the big bucks they were seeing while cutting or when they shut down for the day. In the afternoons I’d go sit in the skidder and watch deer feed till dark on the fresh tender browse that got knocked down. One morning I walked in right behind the skidder and by the time he fell off the hillside and started cutting a big nine point came walking out and I was able to shoot him. Sometimes you gotta make the best of the situation. It worked for me I killed two big bucks hanging around these guys while they were cutting

I had some land leased in West Bama, across the state from me. Loggers came in and started cutting a area. I knew they was cutting but didn’t think they would be that deep that fast. Thought my camera was gone, they had actually took it down and put it on a shooting house ladder. I wasn’t upset with them even when I thought it was gone. I farm for a living and they do also. I’m in cattle, they are in timber. It doesn’t effect the deer much and have made some friends over the years from logging. I have a lot of turkeys around my hunting land, they turkey hunt here I deer hun at there place. Good times.
