I bet he'd get good leverage in a fight but I don't know how he's gonna mount a doe.

Looks more like the deer I does I saw up in Kentucky last winter. They were stout compared to the deer I’m used to seeing in Monroe county. Thick necks and apparently shorter faces (like on a fawn doe rather than a 3 year old doe) but were clearly 2-4 year old deer.
We’ve got two body types where I’m hunting; long-legged, long body deer and short-legged, medium bodied. Doesn’t matter age or sex it’s one or the other.

As a side note, about 3 years ago I was “crossing” a railroad track where I saw a large number of does crossing not too far from me. There were maybe 8-10 in the bunch and aged first year to maybe three and a half. There was one in the group that looked like it had just dropped but had no spots and a long, adult proportioned head but couldn’t have been 2 feet tall. It had to hop to get over the rails. I’ve looked up midget deer but never found much about the subject but I’m certain that is what I saw. This was the last week of January.

I wouldn't kill him unless you just want to. I sure wouldn't so it because I thought he was going to pass on some recessive genes. Like Stan says, I don't think he can reach it to do the deed anyways unless she gets on her knees. He's distinctive enough that it would be cool to see how often you see him or he shows up on camera.

If you do kill him make sure to pull the jawbone. I'd like to see it to get an idea of his age.

Probably had his growth stunted from smoking pot and cigs when he was a junior high school kid.

Wow...really? That is some funny stuff!

I guess when you're a 6 ' 8" GIANT, an AVERAGE height guy like me at just 6 FEET seems a little small!

Bet I only seemed 5'8" or 5'9" standing next to you. An Optical illusion, or maybe due to lack of oxygen way up where your head is. grin

and oh yeah...

Haha! Wrong “Phil” I believe.

that camera is about 120 yards off my back porch he shows up every other day same time I was sitting there yesterday and counted 13 different deer between 4 and 5 o'clock I don't have any reason to shoot him I can't help but kinda smile when I see his little short butt hope he don't start rutting and get whacked somewhere

Not as much experience as you have in human dwarfism.

The short legged deer I have seen (and killed) were also piebald (to a greater or lesser extent) and parrot-mouthed (short jawbone). They had spindly antlers, and the tooth wear was all wonky because the lower and upper didn't line up in the normal way. The only way to age a parrot-mouth is to do the tooth-ring procedure, which takes some specialized techniques and equipment. I have seen them on Ft. Rucker and in north Baldwin County.

I also have a piebald doe that comes to the same spot around same times and I killed a spike a few years ago with a pronounced overbite about an inch of the roof of its mouth extended past the bottom jaw it looked like a dork deer maybe we just got bad genetics up here in Elmore county the deer must inbreed as much as the locals. we ain't called elmorons for nothing.

Why are we assuming it's a buck. I don't see an undercarriage or antlers. I can't really zoom in either.
