Why not put some of these non-violent offenders that are in the jail over there to help them clean up I agree with the theory but in practice then it becomes prisoners being used for individuals chore duty. Yes, I realize it's an 89 year old lady but there are private clean up companies for private people to use. Who cares if it's private. They're criminals, they have no rights anymore. The United States Constitution would disagree with you. why are private prisons allowed to use them as cheap manufacturing labor?

I know for a fact that Cullman County will put them out on work detail for the public. Cleaning up public spaces like road right of ways, parks etc correct? Or are you talking about private property?

That is an issue the Southern Poverty Law Center is or was addressing. Is that you Morris? Of course the biggest complainer of this are the private industries that they are competing with. At the PD we used to get all our state standardized forms from the state prison printing shop and I think that became a stink from private printing companies. At one time we used to send old/broken office furniture to the prisons to be renovated and that got stopped. As far as work detail picking up litter etc., the biggest problem there is liability and medical costs. Almost all of the prisoners would rather sit in an ER than pick up trash and if they say they are hurt or sick, you have no other option than to get them medical attention.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I can see pulling the son in, but not mawmaw. What good did it serve. You pull her in just to let her go and you look like an ass hole for doing it.

But, they are not required to do it and they get paid. It is work release. That is not the same as forced labor. Most people don't realize that when they eat at a chain restaurant in Montgomery the food was most likely cooked by a state prisoner on work release. It'll be the same anywhere there is a state prison close by.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I hope that the people behind arresting the Clecklers for trying to make a living's appliances fail during the holidays and they have to pay major bucks to replace or beg to get parts to fix from the Clecklers. They have helped me and many others through the years and that's all I have to say.

From what I have gathered from this is that these folks basically have a salvage yard for large appliances, similar to an auto salvage yard. I understand the issue if, there are, in fact, some that are collecting water from the rain and are a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Is there a possibility that the ones that still have any value in old parts for resale can be stored inside somewhere? Like maybe they could rent another building to store them inside so they cannot collect rainwater. The others that have no other value except for whatever the scrap metal is worth these days should be taken and sold for just that.
Mostly it sounds like they just need to relocate to outside the city limits and get the city monkey off their back.

Couldn't they have just pulled their business license until they clean it up? The jail part was ridiculous in my mind.

Hey you can't say monkey anymore. Remember the FL gov race recently??? I may be reaching that age that falls into being unable to teach an old dog new tricks. In reality, I just do not want to have to censor every dang thing I say because someone may take it out of context. We have become an overly sensitive, way too easily offended, super politicized country.
