I don't know about sayings, but I always thought it was strange that anytime I talk to an old timer about scrapes and rubs, they talk about scrapes being the size of "truck hoods". Always that was an interesting, and apparently universal, unit of measure.

I shot a cull buck

I drive past a bunch of cows on the way to our place and always check to see what they are doing

In general:

The most colorful thing I ever heard. Guy looked 80-plus. On the back of a pickup full of kids and dads:
