Hello all,
I've been lurking here for a week or so trying to learn as much as I can and it paid off yesterday. As someone who grew up with an extended family of hunters, I was never really able to hunt as a kid despite wanting to learn. It's not that my parents were against hunting or firearms, more that they were just afraid that some irresponsible hunter out there would shoot their child (they were pretty over protective). So now, in my early 30s, I started to get interested once again. I went out to a friend's property yesterday and sat in my stand all day, only seeing one deer right at sunrise (no clear shot). Just when I was about to give up, a doe surprised me and walked right up under me. I watched her for a while and had decided to let her pass because she looked pretty small. After studying her a bit more and seeing her full body in the context of other things, I changed my mind and decided to take the shot. She popped up, arched her back, and took off. I heard her crashing through the brush for a few seconds and wondered if I had missed. I waited about 15 minutes before getting down. Once I did, I couldn't find a blood trail! After about 10 minutes of walking around in the direction she took off in, I found her. She only traveled maybe 25-30 yards from where she was when I shot. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I've got a new excitement for hunting and I'm eager to continue. I've applied for the state's Adult mentored hunt program and will hopefully hear back soon!

Harvested? So you picked it off a bush or tree? HUNTERS KILL DEER! welcome newbie!
Thomas Jefferson. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Life is too short to only hunt and fish on weekends!
If being a dumbass was fatal some of you would be on your death bed!
