I’m accustomed to a mid-late December rut here. I’ve hunted in a few clubs and this year got my own lease just outside Addison. Found a few scrapes that never got freshened up , 3 to be exact, and got a few big bucks on camera (all at night) all in the first few weeks of December and now all the deer have just shut down. The biologist on here offered data for DS that shows peak breeding at 6 December. Surely that wasn’t all the rut I’m going to get on this property. Just curious what everyone else is seeing particularly around Addison. Thanks!!

I hunt about 30 miles from Addison and last season the bucks were chasing the week of Christmas.

I hunted for years around the Winston cty/Walker County Line and the rut was always around the second week of December through the 1st week on January. Around Christmas seemed to be Peak rut around there to me. Ive killed a couple good bucks on Xmas day before down there.

From what I know about the area, yes, the rut should be about finished there in the next few days...the further west you go in Winston County, the later the rut is...our farm is in far western Winston and our rut is always the last two weeks of December, although eastern Winston is typically the first two weeks of December

I've hunted quite a bit lately in Winston county and have seen A LOT of does, but no bucks chasing. Only thing I've seen chasing were doggone dogs. Should be heating up this week I believe.

3 bucks on my wall from Thanksgiving week in Winston county. This year I havent seen any chasing or any indication that the rut was on. Hoping I just experience a strong pre rut and the actual rut is about to start but previous years have shown little sign around xmas

I grew up and lived in Addison my whole life and due to our different strains of whitetail ( Michigan, South Carolina, and native) you can see chasing from mid November through mid January. On our farm in downtown Addison it usually happens the first week of December through mid December. If your closer to the Bankhead side its a crapshoot.

Well right after I posted this yesterday the deer got the message. We’ve seen multiple mature bucks and a lot of young ones in the last 30 hours running does. Hoping the front doesn’t slow them down too bad, figuring it will probably be good right up through Christmas.

Is your farm off 99? There’s a beautiful farm where they raised soybeans this year close to my lease. I pass it going in.

No, but I have hunted that farm and the 120 acres of soterra land next to it from my whole childhood up until about 6 years ago. There's a lot of bone on my wall that came from that area. One of my friends who leases the tract between mchann rd and 99 killed an 8pt last week scent checking 3 doe in his greenfield. My family farm is on the south side of Addison. The deer population has improved greatly in your area since Mr. Bollinger has started planting soy beans the past couple of years.

Good to hear. It’s good to get to know folks in the area, all my family is down at Lakeshore closer to Double Springs and I wasn’t to familiar with Addison deer hunting going into the season. I’m pretty pleased so far. Have y’all had a lot of problems with road hunters and poachers/trespassers? I’ve only caught 2 so far this year which in all honesty is a good season compared to the clubs I’ve been in. The game warden told me that the road hunters are pretty bad in that area.

I drove home from Haleyville to near jasper this evening on Hwy 5 and there were multiple deer run over between Natural Bridge and Lynn. I also saw Bucks with Does in 2 different locations, standing on the side of the road. I'd say its on in that neck of Winston/Walker counties. None of those deer that had been hit were there when I went to work this morning.

Me and a buddy are probably gonna be on the forest Thursday. Hope things aren’t completely over on the south side
