We've had my wife's highlander for going on 3 years. Plenty of room for all 5 of us, drives and rides really good, and has plenty of power.

As many have mentioned the 4Runner will probably be too small. The backseats in those are way too cramped IMO. Plus Toyota reliability and quality is not what it used to be. I had a 17 Tacoma trd crew cab loaded that I ended up getting rid of because o all of the little quirks that kept popping up and little things coming loose and rattling everywhere , brake problems, and the transmission shifting 15 times (exaggeration) just to go up a hill. Had it back to the dealership several times getting things looked at and fixed.

As far as suvs go, the suburbans are nice as well as the gmc equivalent the Yukon xl. Only thing is they do have some small tech stuff that they are still working the kinks out of if you get the one with all the options. My boss has 2 and they are at the dealership getting little electrical stuff fixed frequently. Not a problem on the ones that aren’t fully loaded without lame departure and stuff.

My mother drives a 2015 or 2016 Ford Expedition XL and it is nice. The turbo motor will scoot. She has over 100,000miles on it now with no issues at all.

Family of 5 here that just went through this a few months ago. I already have a 4Runner for work and I can tell you, you will NOT be happy with the room, with 5 people. We looked at Tahoe but felt the interior was cheap for what you pay. Especially the uncomfortable, thin, back seats. We looked at Sequoia but the technology is outdated compared to other makes and models. We didn’t look at Jeep because I’ve never been impressed with the lack of quality. (My opinion). We settled on Expedition and couldn’t be happier. My wife started out like yours and didn’t want to look at them. She’s very happy we did.

if you need cargo room, suburban/Yukon xl (I lean more gmc than gm, personal preference). with the rear seats up to seat 7, there is enough room for 2 medium igloo cube coolers and a sack of groceries. sequoia will pull a house, but won’t pass a gas pump by...not too bad while gas is somewhat cheap, but it starts hurting when it hits $3+.
if you are a truck purist, sequoia is the last full sized suv built on a true truck frame.

the new expedition look really good, but i’d wait a year to get the kinks out of a new design production run.

We have a 4Runner as a family of 3 and would not recommend it for 5 due to size. The Sequoia would be great for 5 but like mentioned above Toyota sure is leaps and bounds behind everyone else as far interior technology, design and creature comforts.

Huh?
GM has a 1 ton suburban for fleet customers, I don't know what's more "truck" than something designed from the factory to get armored.
The regular 1/2 ton suburbans are built on modified Silverado frames in Texas.

I am a Ford homer, but I have two quirks against the new Expeditions. One is that a base model costs more than a house. The explorer is the same way. The second is you can only get them with the ecoboost. I like that motor, but some folks don't. You've got a time tested hell of a motor you already put in the trucks in the 5.0, why not have it as base engine? I'm sure it's because they know a hell of a lot more about the market than I do, so I'll keep checking dog prostates.

Not to get too personal, but was this intentional? I've long said, and after having 2 of my own, I maintain that anyone who intentionally has more than 2 kids is out of their mind. When you have 2, you and the Mrs can still play Man Coverage. Once you have 3 or more you have to drop back and play zone and it just doesn't work as well.

Kinda reminds me of a day years ago when one of my buddies called me about this time of the year and told me he was scheduled for a vasectomy in January...which was about a month too late.

C'est la vie.
