Well I’m not a fan of the Fed either plus I voted for Trump but the chairman is a Trump appointee and what they’re doing is actually increasing buying power and strengthening the dollar because it’s killing inflation. They’re doing it because Trumps economy is so good right now it can handle it.

Saw this coming from a mile away. They kept rates low for all of Obama's term. Propped him up. Now it's on to screw Trump's record.

It's pretty hilarious. They kept rates at literally 0% for ALL of Obama's tenure. That's like putting the economy on life support. Then Trump comes in and they start jacking it up.

it's been between 5% - 10% for 20 years between 1980 to 2000 it's about as low as it gets right now it has been over 20% prior to the 80s. only reason it dropped below 2% in the last decade is to try and pull us out of a recession. they had to keep it dam near zero all of Obama's presidency to keep the economy from completely tanking. it's a good sign for our country when the rate goes up markets are just adjusting and everything will be fine. cant expect the rate to stay that low when we are doing so well.

...but we're not doing that well. The economy is a lot weaker than folks think. The unemployment numbers are fake, and have been for some time. The number of able-bodied people that work is the lowest ever, in the history of the country. And this is all with cheap energy and low interest rates. As those go up, it'll be disaster.

I agree with the anti-trump statements but you can't keep money free forever. Stagflation is gonna make this downturn hurt too.

The Federal Reserve is a private bank that issues out currency and does not need to exist. We do not need to take money from them on interest. I don't know how many times I have to say it or how to word it for you guys to see the bigger schemes at work. Its all a lie and a front controlled by a few global interests, same as the media. Why anyone would use a traditional bank for a large savings account is beyond me. Interest rates of .000024% or something abysmal.

All I can tell you, is that manufacturing is BOOMING. That isnt a sign of a weak economy.

My first mortgage was 8.25%. I told the wife we will never see it go lower than that! My current mortgage rate is 3.05%.

I've never had any debt higher than 5%. Weren't mortgages at one time like 12-15% the norm?

My first was around 10% in the early 90s.

There is far too much focus on the short term, here and now economy. Which makes sense, because we live in the here and now...so we need to focus there some but not by ignoring what is also down the road. It is the long term economic health that is most important for sustained prosperity, opportunity and national security. America has gotten out of hand on all things financial.

At some point in time, the American way of life (economically) we've MANIPULATED and CREATED is going to implode. If you look at the debt, the deficit, the Fed Reserve, the idiots in DC, lack of a conservative budget, Congressional overspending, Agency manipulation of the budget, the entirety of the bureaucracy of government (fed, state local), along with crooked lenders, greedy corporations and the dumb ass typical American Consumer---it's only a matter of time.

Over the years there have been really good, sound economic fixes proposed only to be shot down by those seeking long power in government or those groups dependent on that gov't relationship to stay. That is because America as a culture in general has adopted many Progressive Movement ideologies....gov't has to provide, protect, enable, help, take care of XYZ. Gone are personal responsibility and making your own way with as little assistance as possible. Social programs once "developed" to be a temporary safety net for those in dire, true need have become an entitlement hammock for any need and want. I say "developed" because they were never really ever developed as a safety net...only marketed as such back in the day---the whole Progressive notion was to implement the plan knowing that America would never get rid of it--only grow it.

The price of homes has gone up a lot since mortgages were that high. Look at the difference a $200k home is now compared to what it was back then. Less land, less home, cheaper built and much more costly than it used to be.
Vehicles are the same way. Interest rates don’t have to be as high because they’ll just charge you more for it.

They can tell me rising rates are good til their blue in the face but I’m not buying it. If anyone here could convince me how these rising interest rates are good for me then please do. I’d love to see the whole picture but as a consumer and middle class I despise it. My wages haven’t gone up and the wife’s hasn’t either. They’re just reaching in my wallet a little deeper and preventing me from buying some things I’d thought about buying.

Do you save money, or plan to in the future? Folks are getting 2% on their savings whereas two years ago it was literally 0% or dang near it. High interest rates hurt borrowers but really help savers.

I don’t do savings accounts really. My money goes into mutual funds, deferred comp,529 for the kids, and Iras. I have a pension retirement at work and also have a 401k at a second job.
We save every way we can. Most of this isn’t liquid it’s for retirement.

Houses, cars, etc are all inflated beyond the point where most people can save up and pay cash for anything so they borrow. To me there is nothing good to come of this or any rise in interest rates. It’s going to keep people in more debt. They’ll buy homes and cars they can not afford and is only worth maybe half what they paid because the prices are so inflated.
This is going to hurt the housing market, automobile industry, and lots of the corporations who manufacture the parts.
Zero good for the working man short term or long term. In the end it’ll be like 2008 again but worse.

I was lucky enough to avoid 2008 cause of my birth year and that point in my life.
We are doing a 10 year planned down turn. So its a buyers market, not a cash it in market.
