This is up near where I grew up.
I've been talking with my Brother about who this might be and our conclusions are that
Its either the Lawson girl who went missing twenty plus years ago or a Handley boy who went missing
about 5 years ago

Did they convict someone on the Lawson killing without a body?

Hopefully some peace for the victims family.

They have not. I think a couple people were found dead that were related to the case

This got me interested so I looked it up. The kidnapper killed himself while the FBI had his house surrounded waiting on a warrant. The woman who aided him is in jail for life, but for kidnapping, not murder. The FBI really screwed this case up, but they will never admit to it.

Yeah this case was very poorly handled. Earl was a fraternity brother of mine, and I am sure he would like some closure.

When I hear about something like this in walker or that area I automatically think about Carrie Lawson. That was a strange ordeal.

I grew up in Walker Co. and lived there when the Carrie Lawson case occurred. The case was bungled on many different levels and so blatantly it had to be intentional. Carrie had to stumble up on some very incriminating evidence that she planned to make public. Furthermore, there is no way Jerry Bland and his female accomplice overpowered the Lawson's and pulled this off alone. I do not think Carrie Lawson's body will ever be found. At the time of her disappearance there were many active strip pits in the area and placing her remains near a reclamation phase of a pit would result in her being covered by up to 200 ft of earth. I don't know if her Dad is still alive but he spent a fortune trying to find any information to help him find her.

I figure Lawson is in a 55 gallon drum of cement at the bottom of Smith Lake somewhere.

Her father passed away. He sister lives down the street from Dallas County. From everything I know some of what you hypothesize is most likely true about why it happened. The issue is who the dirt was on and about. I have heard several ideas and most involve people who are still around jasper in very public ways.

I'm curious, several have mentioned that LE botched the case, which is easy to do in a big case, but what exactly did they do wrong, if anyone can remember details?

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Damn glad I never lived in Walker County. Way too many strange deaths/disappearances down there. A good friend of mine was a cop at Oakman and he told me some seriously crazy chit. Then he died in a car wreck.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

One big thing was that the FBI said they were waiting on a warrant when they were sitting outside the guys house and he killed himself. They didn’t need a warrant, at the time, they thought she was inside the house. No reason to wait for a warrant. Plus, they could have arrested him without a warrant. He was the only person that knew where her body was or he knew where he left her alive. The sister who is in prison was part of the kidnapping, but didn’t know what happened to her after that.

There was another lady that went missing about 3 years prior to Carrie Lawson. Her name was Rebecca Ferguson

Carrie was a couple of years ahead of me in law school. We took several days out of class looking .. well drinking beer when she disappeared. She was a sweet girl. Lots of conspiracy theories related to this case.

So you knew Jack! We grew up together. I was over at his brother's house yesterday. Jack was a card!

Yes sir, I sure did. We'd stop and talk whenever we saw each other down at the Spur (now the only gas station in Oakman). With me being in the Vol. Fire dept at the time, and my wife being (and still is) the EMA director over Walker County, we always had plenty to discuss. He def had some good stories to tell.
He was and is still truly missed here in this little town.
