Dang. I can't imagine what he surely went thru and experienced. Kudos to your mother for her interest and preservation of the artifact.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I’ve become very interested in Civil War lately. Toured all the Streight’s Raid sites last summer. Going on a tour of Shiloh April 6-7, which I believe were the actual dates of the battle. Harold Bouldin, Chief genealogicist for the Alabama SCV, did my history for me last fall. He found 17-18 Can nfederste ancestors, one Yankee ancestor and 2 Campbells who were at Yorktown with Gen. Washington. It sounded like the poor soul in this letter knew just what he was up against.

Do you have the actual letter as well? I don’t think so, but it’s possible. I’ve got a LOT of stuff to go through that is Civil War related.

My Great Great grandfather James Kendrick fought with the 15th Alabama infantry at Vicksburg where he was captured and released and then later and Kennesaw Mountain, after which he was captured again and was imprisoned at Rock Island, Illinois. He was released after the war and was given a state pension of a few dollars a month that maybe helped a little on the family farm in what is now Chelsea, Al,

My tour is with a bonafide Civik War expert. I bet he’ll talk a lot about the Alabama troops that were there.
“Killing tomorrow’s trophies today.”
