2.Farm Trailers: Trailers used exclusively for transporting farm products to and from market or for transporting the personal property of the farmer for his own use on the farm.
I didn't want to press to test to this one, so I registered my home built 16' trailer despite having a Farm tag on my truck and hauling all kinds of farm equip and personal property. Home builts don't have serial #'s so they used my phone number to title it. The only problem is I don't have a good, visible from the rear, place to mount the tag. I've never been pulled over, but I got the tag if I do.

I know one guy that has several trailers but since he can just pull one at the time he got a tag for one of them and keeps it in the cab incase he is stopped. Ed-cop no doubt!

My 5×8 trailer doesn't have the identification plate anymore. I dont know the make or have the VIN number for it. Any suggestions on how I can get a vin or plate for it so I can register it? Just make up your own numbers/letters and bill of sale, and tell em it's homemade, that's what i had to do with one of mine years ago. And I'd just use a dremel and put the numbers somewhere on the trailer myself

Any suggestions on how I can get a vin or plate for it so I can register it? no visual inspection required just make up a vin. I have never had a tag on a trailer and I have never had a ticket for it and I pull a trailer alot usually all hunting season and at least once a week in the summer. I've always heard you only need a tag if the trailer is being used for a commercial purpose. I'll just save my registration fee every year to pay the ticket if I ever get one.

Had to show em (Mobile County) my 6x12 i purchased last year, which i thought was strange because i didn't have to with my others (but that was years ago) but both places i called said to bring trailer with me. And The reason i have mine tagged is because the state got real money hungry (like always) several years back, and troopers were popping folks left and right including me, and i don't want to give em no reason to be pulling me over...

How far did you have to dig to exhume this post. Good lord. We need to have a yard sale and clean the freaking attic out.

You can buy the little number and letter steel punch set at Harbor Freight for cheap and then stamp your own numbers. I knew a guy that did it on a vintage bike one time. Got a title from a guy at a junk yard, ground the old numbers off and stamped new ones in to match the "new" title. Worked like a charm.

This was Mobile. You can order vin plates off Amazon already engraved or engrave it yourself.

When they get money hungry..... you never know.
I've been pulled over for no tag several times and because it was a gooseneck and I had a farm tag they let me slide but I got popped once for not having my load secured at 4 corners..... and it was a dern UTV on a flatbed. I had the front corners tied down but had a single strap running through the frame across the back of the machine. And these were those big yella trucker straps not some crappy 1" ratchet strap.
He was just trying to give me a ticket. I was going something like 60 when he pulled me over. What a prick. A-hole with a badge trying to get his quota.
The only way it coulda got any worse if y'all seen Super Troopers.. he'd have said. "Listen Meow... you don't have a tag on this here trailer. Meow I'm gonna have to inspect your load here. Alright meow."
I was waiting on it... I thought for sure this is some kinda joke.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
