I have killed every bird that I have killed with an 835 up until this year. I have owned several over the years and have found that they all pattered well with a kicks gobbling thunder choke and any #5 shell that I found to shoot.

That is all I’ve ever shot. The dang thing does kick like a mule but I love it. I believe I have a briley choke and it has always patterned Winchester longbeards and extended range shells really well in shot 4,5, and 6. I shoot the longbeards shot 6 right now.

I just Bought an 835 with a jelly head choke and at 30 yds I had Over 257 shot in 10” circle. It will punch the heck out of your shoulder but who thinks about that when you are on a bird. Could always drop back to 3” also if you are getting soft. I had My Remington 887 stolen and this was my gun of choice but I almost Went with a 20awg.

I think I’ll seing by the gun shop today and look around some more. I’ll look at the Benelli too, I do like the option of shooting 3” or 3.5’s.

I’ll be keeping the A5 it’s not going anywhere, I’ve killed way to many critters with that one.

Ive shot mine one time at a turkey at about 30yds, turned him a flip, I dont remember the gun kicking at all, kicks gobbling thunder choke/ 3in winchester xx. A few days before that I patterned it, I had 6boxes of shells I was trying, I thought I would have to go to the hospital to get my shoulder put back in place.

so why do ya'll shoot something that knocks the chitt out of you...and doesn't pattern or kill any better than 10 other guns that kick half as much??? Some macho thing going here????

The recoil isn't as bad as the 870 I had but it became much easier to shoot with a Sims recoil pad on it. I didn't mind shooting it at all after I put the pad on. I've went the 20 gauge route and don't need a 12 gauge turkey gun anymore but if I did I'd go right back to the 835.

I still have the 835 i bought from you several years ago. It's a shooter for sure.

I have never claimed to be macho. I dreaded patterning that gun for months. I wont shoot it again unless its at a turkey. I do not like pain, it hurts.

i'm not a Browning expert, but if you can shoot 3" shells & have the option of putting a choke in the barrel, i'd hang w/the A5 for a mighty long time ... i shot an 835 w/a comp-n-choke tube for quite a while; never have regretted getting rid of it

I can change the choke but it only shoots 2 3/4. I looked at the mossberg 535 today it’s tuekey ready and comes with an extra barrel for $399

I’ve shot 43 turkeys with my old 835 with zero issue, and I let y’all talk me into buying and fixing up a 20 ga and shooting tss.

Well, I shot one Saturday and rolled him. Then he got up and ran his ass into the next county. (Literally, I’m on the line)

I’ll try it again, and I know that it’s my fault, I hit him low on a hurried shot.

But 835 would have dusted him I’m convinced
